Heads Up: guitarsbyleo.com will require some updates ...

Post by Craig »

As you have probably noticed that our guitarsbyleo.com site has had some major issues for several weeks.
Due to changes to the minimum support software versions provided for our site which our ISP is requiring us to use,
we must update the software which our site is built with (phpBB and Gallery), to be compatible with the new minimum support software versions.

In addition, the functionality of our G&L Registry and the GbL User Profiles sections are no longer functioning at this time. It is
unknown why these sections are no longer functioning as before. For the time being, only the forums (G&L Forum, G&L Knowledgebase,
and GbL Marketplace) and Gallery sections are fully functional.

When I return from my short vacation on Monday, I will be looking into what I will need to do to update the forums and Gallery software packages
to meet this minimum support software requirements. Once I come up with a plan to doe these updates, I will let you know.

I am sorry for this inconvenience, I will try my best to get this resolved as soon as possible.

I will need to update the PHP software used by the GbL site to the ISP's supported version (7.3), which means that I will also need to update
the Forum and Gallery software to use this updated version of PHP.

In addition, I managed to get Covid-19 and am on Day 3 of my 5 Day Paxlovid medication treatment. I anticipate that I will start the software
updates next week at the earliest.

Thank you all for your patience and stay tuned.

I have successfully updated the Forum software (phpBB) to the latest update. You will notice that the previous Style (AcidTech Green)
has been changed to a new Style (Lucid Lime) because AcidTech Green has not been updated to run on the current Forum software.

Next steps to be done is to upgrade the Gallery software and then fix the G&L Registry and User Profiles sections of the site.

At least we have the Forums back online.

Stay tuned.

Update on the GbL Update Saga (converting 2000 software to run on 202x PHP software):

I have not been successful in getting the Gallery 2 software updated to the ISP mandated PHP software version of 7.4.
I have had to go to a new release of Gallery, which is Version 3. This is a scaled down version of the previous software we were using.
I also have had to manually transfer the Gallery 2 Albums to Gallery 3 Albums. I have not yet transferred all of
the Registered Users Album. So, if your Album has not yet been transferred over and you want it transferred over, let me know
the name of your Album and will do the transfer for you. Also, any previous posts which have photos from Gallery 2, will not
display the photos until they are converted to the new Gallery 3 Album links.

Regarding the G&L Registry and User Profile GbL sections which need major updating due to the ISP mandated PHP software, I have some hopeful news: Brad Traweek recently reached out to me about him looking into this and, of course, I welcomed his offer to help.
For those who don't know about Brad: he was the creator of the guitarsbyleo.com website including the G&L Registry.

Stay tuned as we continue the GbL Update Saga.

Great News! ... Brad is updating the G&L Registry code ...

Post by Craig »

...

Brad came through BIG TIME for us, to get the G&L Registry back up. He says it's about 70% done and will be working on it this evening. For now you can search the current Registry data base.

He will be updating the User Profile code for us as well and then the guitarsbyleo.com site will be fully functional again!

Big Kudos go out to Brad Traweek!!!
