RIP Phil

Post by john o »

it comes as a bit of a shock to me, that Phil Lesh has passed at 84.
i was just thinking, yesterday, about how amazing it is that he's still playing out, blessed to be able to do that.
it's been a long strange trip, RIP Phil

note the bass he is playing in this pic!

Sad day indeed.

He was an amazing player and musician in general. Saw him with the Dead and with Phil and Friends, many great memories.

RIP Philip Chapman Lesh “Phil”

Yes, this news hit me a little hard. I saw Phil and the Grateful Dead 60+ times, then occasional Phil and Friends, Further, two Fare Thee Well shows.... I checked out his book from the library yesterday to re-read it. Hugely influential bassist, musician, and composer (wish there had been more of that).

Thanks for linking that picture. Phil seemed to play the L2K fall 1982 to early 1983. Soon after, he had his first six-string bass...

That is sad news.

I only started listening to TGD in the past five years or so. They just didn't get a lot of airplay on the radio stations I listened to growing up. Now that I'm old.. er, I can really appreciate what a great bass player Phil was - from the very start. I love the groove on Casey Jones - you can tell he's enjoying that bassline. Just sweet. I guess I shouldn't be surprised he was 84, but it still seems he should be in his sixties to me. I guess I feel like I should be in my thirties instead of my fifties, so I guess it makes sense.
