RIP Dickey Betts

Post by DanDoulogos »

Hard to believe he was 80 years old. It was a heart attack after a long bout with COPD.

Sad day indeed. He influenced many and is one of those who you know it is from the first few notes.

Had a slide out yesterday to honor the man.

Over 30 years ago I saw The Allman Brothers Band at the Universal Amphitheater in L.A. They were awful; primarily because Dickey Betts seemed to be having a tantrum and was sitting on a crate all night playing with his back to the audience. We left early and I never spent money on the ABB again. We all have bad nights I suppose.

I saw Dickey Betts and Great Southern at JFK stadium in philly summer '77 (with J Geils, Skynyrd, Frampton). They opened with Blue Sky. 1/2 way through that tune, Dickie got mad and kicked the monitor wedge off the stage, and they walked off mid song. short set!

In their day, the Allmans were amazing.

Jaimoe is sole survivor!

Dickey's son Duane has some of his dad's amazing vintage guitars.
