Pickguard mounted ASAT Special pickups?

I was considering a project that would require pickguard mounting an ASAT Special neck pickup. All the photos I have found look like these pickups are screwed directly into the guitar body. I was wondering whether anybody has tried pickguard mounting them and how it worked out.
