G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved New Model?

Post by BX1018 »

Good morning everyone,

I noticed that Sweetwater now has two listings of the G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top

Old one is <actual price deleted>
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail ... rans-black
New one is <actual price deleted>
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail ... rans-black

The only difference I see is the older cheaper one has the G&L Humbuckers and the newer one has "Cort Humbuckers" as the listed pickups. The new one has a Nato body and the old one also has a mahogany body.

Have they raised the price and cheapened the electronics?

Yes price did increase (likely due partly to shipping cost increases), but the pickups are the same as before, which are still built at the Indonesia factory to G&L specifications.
See: https://glguitars.com/product/asat-delu ... a6836802bf and List of pickups used in G&L guitars.
Note About G&L Tribute Series Guitar Pickups
-The Tribute Series instruments (including Limited Editions/Exclusive Models) that use MFD pickups are the same USA pickups made in Fullerton, CA.
-The single coil Alnico pickups (CLF-100) used in the Tribute Series Legacy are also the same pickups used in the USA Legacy and are made at the Fullerton factory.
-Other single coil Alnico pickups, humbuckers and P-90's used in the Tribute Series instruments are made to G&L's specifications at the Cort facility in Indonesia.

Note: Most of the Tribute Series MF/GC Exclusive Models have pickups which are made to G&L specifications at the Cort facility in Indonesia, see: 2015-present MF/GC Exclusive Tribute Models.
.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Craig. So basically what has changed is a small bump in MSRP and the body wood? I saw the Fallout switched to Poplar as well.

Yes, and they also added some models with Sassafras body wood, too.

Something that caught my eye on Sweetwater was the terminology they chose to use in their description for the Legacy HSS. In addition to mentioning "Cort" repeatedly, this sentence stood out to me...
The Cort Strat single-coils are descended from the bright and spanky single-coils of the ’50s and channeling that classic chime that Fender enthusiasts love so much

A tone that's straight out of the ’50s

Am I the only one who wants a guitar in Sassafras just so I can completely overuse the word? :D

Also, despite where the Humbuckers are manufactured, Cort is clearly doing a good job of meeting G&L's specs. Those humbuckers really do everything well, which I think is so important in a guitar in that price point. My Fallout is just such a beautiful Swiss Army Knife guitar.
