Can anyone tell me what’s going on here? Especially relating to the 3pdt 2 position coil tap?

Basically, I bought a new G&L double blade pickup to put in the neck and I’m moving the neck pickup down to replace middle slot, as the middle pickup is shot.

And I can’t find anything on the web that explains the blue wire’s function, which I think is a coil tap, or how to wire it.
Also can’t seem to confirm what style invader this is. Has January something 2006 under the neck

find the section at the bottom for posting from flick hosted images.
The model name of your G&L is the Invader Deluxe. There were Six versions: Invader, Invader Deluxe, Invader Plus, Invader Plus Deluxe Invader XL and Invader XL Deluxe.
Here are the Specs for each-from the 1997 G&L Catalog and 1997 G&L Retail Price List:
These specifications did not change until 2018, when the factory change the body style to the Legacy/S-500/Comanche body and kept only the Invader and Invader XL models,
which also had different pickups in each.
Back to your guitar:
The neck and middle pickups were G&L Dual Blade pickups (designed by G&L and made for G&L by Gotoh in Japan).
These pickups were built with four wires but G&L did not use the Blue coil splitter wire for the Invader and Legacy Special models, see reference Legacy Special Wiring Diagram in
our Gallery->Album: Instrument Manuals and Wiring Schematics->Legacy Special Diagrams->Legacy Special Wiring Diagram.
The coil splitter switch in your model was used for the bridge humbucker.
Hope this helps.

Re: HELP identifying Invader design and circuitry
Thanks Craig it definitely does help. So it says to snip the blue wire, but would there be no way to wire the new pickup to the existing coil tap? Is there a reason its a 3pdt instead of a dpdt like every other one ive seen?

Re: HELP identifying Invader design and circuitry
Yes, because G&L does not wire up the G&L Double Blade and Power Blade pickups for coil splitting. In the Invader models they only wire up the coil splitter switch for the SD humbuckers.Johnnygtar89 wrote:Thanks Craig it definitely does help. In your case the bridge humbucker is wired to the coil splitter switch. I am not sure why they used a 3pdt 2 position coil splitter switch in your Invader. Perhaps they just used that switch for all
the Invader models built in the same year as yours.
Hope this helps.
