Slide Guitar Fans

Obscure but great player that kind of fell off the radar screen -- lots of comparisons to Sonny Landreth but this guy took playing behind the slide a lot further than anybody else I'm aware of.

Hope you dig it. :)

Looked other places, He have any non itunes samples that can be heard? My compy doesn't play them, due to a lack (/refusal) to install itunes. Even my non itunes player that emulates it for purposes of proprietary formats doesn't help here.

You know, there was a music blog that had the whole album online a few years ago...I'll see if I can't find that again....

Trying to cop the album, the fire share it is on requires me to click at oppurtune times (no auto line).

The youtube video reminds me a lot of Zappa stuff. Very cool. Probably due to the vibraphone use.

Good Lord, the whammy bar punishment on that one was freaking amazing.

It is a good direction, and lacking what turns me off of unique stuff like Zappa, the absolutely terrible detracting lyricism. I saw some hits under that name but was unsure if it was the same guy. I will look for some more of it, the album is incoming but I have to get ready for company soon so I will scope it tomorrow.

Very interesting links! I have never heard of that guy before. It's amazing that there is always someone out there in their own little niche doing their thang.

One of my favorite slide guitarists (and all around too...he's a seasoned Nashville guitarist who has played with a ton-o-folk) is Dan Cohen.

Here he is with his band...the Levees...playing hybrid slide guitar on "Preacher's Daughter"

He's a G&L artist too...he's playing his ASAT. I went to college with the lead singer (Adam Jones) and the drummer (Derek Mixon) and bass player (James "Captain" Cook) are from my hometown. Adam, Derek, and James used to play in a band called Howard Shaft...best funk band I've ever seen. Adam plays his trombone on certain songs...and it's cool to have it with Dan's slide guitar.

Without Adam...they did a side project called Swamp Rat. They have Tracy Byrd, Steve Wariner, Sam Bush, and Johnny Neel on their record.
