SNBD L-2000 Quilted

SNBD? SON'S NEW BASS DAY :happy0065:

Today is my son's 15th birthday and I wanted to post his new prized present. He was very surprised. 2002 L-2000 and a Hartke K15 amp. The L-2000 was a closet queen, the seller played other basses and he said this was basically un-played, because it was an impulse buy.

My son had asked for a bass a while back because the high school jazz band guitar player is a senior (son's a freshman), and the instructor told him he could play bass in the Spring if he wanted. He plays in a few bands at school so the instructors know him well.

So I figure if he gets a bass it will be G&L. Thanks Ken and Darwin for answering my questions. Found this L-2000 and with the quilted top and it grabbed my attention. School colors are red so should fit right in.

Pardon the picture indulgence. First non-ASAT I have ever posted.

He's checking it out, I hear Green Day lines this time.

Oh, my comment on first non-ASAT post, well that will change soon.

Thank you guys. The low end world is in the house now.

I'm seeing / hearing my age today. I told him "Look up Barney Miller theme song, great bass lines." His reply was, "Dad, Seinfeld is the greatest theme show bass line."

I'm not "old". ;)

Tell him that the Seinfeld bass line was played on a synth and see what he says. I remember being disappointed. LOL

Thanks again.

John / Elwood, as you know too well, timing is everything finding the ones hiding out there. John, congrats on your son, always fun to see the common interest stay in the family. Elwood, I remember that episode, very funny.

BPostcards, I will surely share the synth background. Been a long time since seeing Seinfeld, need to look it up for a refresher.

Nicely done Sam! And congrats with the birthday of your son. I'd wish my parents would have doted me for my 15th in kind!

Just for curiosities sake, would you have considered an ASAT Bass just to stick to the ASAT theme? ;-)

Beautiful looking bass Sam! Well done. Not being a bass player the only down side I see is, why did the waste such a beautiful piece of wood on a guitar. I would almost buy that thing for it's beauty alone. Now you tow can jam and drive the wife crazy...

Jos, the doting like this is result of three things - he is very talented and I want to maintain the enthusiasm, was in a lucky position finding good deals combined with a recent cash windfall, and I will get a chance to play this bass, and oh yeah I will get to play the bass sometime  I was going to keep up the ASAT mantra but based on recommendations and many reviews of ASAT bass being neck heavy the L2000 it was.

Elwood, that takes me back for sure.

Tom, I had similar thoughts. That wood should have been parked on an ASAT! We could have fun driving both the wife and neighbors crazy. :elguitar054:

Casey - thanks much

Jeff - much appreciated and oh yes he does.

Fumble - thanks and yep the Hartke will push some air. Glad to hear Barney Miller is making a comeback!

BPostcards - I ran the synth fact past my son and at first he didn't believe it, then tried to justify "but it's still bass", only to crumble and say "Oh man!!" Glad to have the back story on the intro.

I saw the same reaction in the face of my amp tech's 17 year old when I brought it up yesterday.
I guess I should make sure he know's about Stanley Clark, Bootsy Collins, Larry Graham, Mark King...
He's already on board as a Jaco fan (ain't we all).

Synth players eh?..."not that there's anything wrong with it" ... :lolno:

What's wrong with synth players? Just my opinion but I always considered Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman, Patrick Moraz to be revolutionary players. When I heard Walter Carlos' "Switched on Bach" as a kid I was amazed.

Great present, bet Sam Jr is happy. He'll get a lot out of playing bass with the band, it really helped me with my guitar playing

Jamie - very true. Now we know you are even more multi-talented than before 8-)

Tooslow - no knock on synth players at all, especially since I am a big prog fan. We were just running with the TV show "bass" line joke.

Way to go Dad! Way to hook your son up with some badass gear. I did the same for my son and a Bluesboy (Jazzband). Don't you wish we had Fathers as cool as we are?
