Really beautiful. I wonder what the purpose of "roasting" the body wood is?

Roasting body woods does a few things, but primarily it serves to really lighten up the weight. Especially with Ash. It can mean the difference of a couple pounds when it's all said and done.
They do become a bit more resonant as a result, but it's mostly weight relief by eliminating all the excess moisture out of the wood.

Torrefaction for body woods has been happening for a long time in the acoustic guitar world, particularly with tops. It helps them sound more "broken in", is the general consensus. The same is likely true for electric guitars as well, although your tone is primarily from the pickups and amplifier anyway.
