This special edition model was designed and sold solely by
Buffalo Bros, and only 10 were made. Bob Page and Tim Page (of
Buffalo Bros.) designed the ASAT Z-2 with the help of G&L.
Tim says, "I liked the Z-coils, and thought, why not do a 2 pickup version?
I figured it would be great for pickers and we've a bunch of "country"
players in our area. I also was impressed with the semi-hollow "No F hole"
idea of the ASAT Jr. which had come out beforehand. And I wanted the Saddle
lock fixed bridge for sustain, and frankly I don't think there is a better
bridge out there.
My brother and I had just met Jerry Donahue (Hellecasters) whose old tele was "natural with tortoise binding, with a tortoise pickguard." We thought it looked cool! So you can see where I got the cosmetics from! So we came to G&L with the ASAT Z-2 design, natural Ash, semi-hollow no F hole, tortoise top/back binding and a tortoise pickguard, rosewood fingerboard, #2 satin neck, standard frets (by the time it was made, I had heard enough 'requests' wishing the original Bluesboys we designed had used the medium/jumbo frets instead of vintage smalls ~ so I went that way). I wanted to keep the cost low, so we opted for a standard G&L SKB-hardcase with logo as well. 10 were made, and we had a certificate that was included with each one, that was hand signed." |
