Question regarding volume control on USA Comanche

Post by Serge »

Hi! I haven't played a PTB-equiped guitar in ages. I picked up a Comanche (made in 2012 0r so) and the volume control does not cut the volume completely at "0" (fully counter-clockwise); is this a characteristic of the PTB system I had forgotten about, or is the pot (or the cap on it) damaged/broken? The volume cuts out when wiggling the knob, sometimes. Or if trying to turn it to "-1". All solder joints look OK.

Thanks!

It should be silent at '0'.
It sounds like a new pot would be the thing.
You could try some cleaner first, but it sounds like it has given up the ghost.

good luck,

Thanks, Elwood! What I was afraid of. OTH, i might somewhat upgrade the cap on the pot by the same token. Now, gotta check whether this is a metric or SAE solid shat on there; this specimen seems to have both metric (bridge) and SAE fittings.

BTW, any G&L dealers left in your area? We had two until a little while ago, and now poof! none east of Kingston.
