Serial dating different years on neck and body

Post by MGB »

Has anyone seen this before a 1996 3 hole neck on a 2001 3 hole body? Asat Classic. Or do I have a two seperate guitar parts? I have to say you woudn't know unless you took the neck off, plays and sounds better than any Tele I have ever played.

It's possible that it is a factory replacement, if you post the serial #(s) there might be a record
of it if it was done at G&L.
Just as likely, a previous owner made that match.
Pics would help too.
Welcome! :)

What is unusual here is that the body ia a three-bolt body with a 2001 build year. The four-bolt neck joint was introduced in approximately mid-1997, see:
When and why did G&L switch to a four-bolt neck?.
Perhaps there was a warranty issue that was fixed on the body in 2001. Please post the serial number and I might be able to get some factory history on this guitar.

We'd love to see more photos of the guitar (full length front and back).

I just heard back from Dave McLaren:
Hi Craig,

I found G049608. I see it invoiced on September 9, 1996, a time when we lost some data due to server failure. From checking the available data from a few ways, it appears to have shipped to Sound Technology in the UK. It is an ASAT Classic in Natural Ash with maple fingerboard. There is no further description, so I expect it would have had a 3-ply white pickguard and clear satin neck finish, which does match the photos.

It seems logical enough that the body was replaced for some reason.

Thanks, Craig.

Dave
Hope this helps.
