Was Brass nut ever offered as original?

I have a 1980 F-100 that has a brass nut that looks original to the guitar. The guy who sold it to me was the original owner and told me it was ordered that way. Is that possible?

I suppose it's possible, but I have not heard anyone mention having a factory installed brass nut on their F-100.
