Hi everyone,
Steve from the UK here, my 1st post but not my 1st time on the site.
The site has been a brilliant source of information and i am totally in love with G&l ,whilst i am not a great player i have G A S when it comes to G&L , the heritage, the sound, the product ,truly guitar porn.!!
i am hoping to be registering my G&L`s over the xmas break.
i have recently purchased a fretless s-500 which made its way to the uk a few years back , brought by the previous but 1 seller. the guitar is on the registry CL05476 , does any one have any information on this please, it has a translucent body with a tortoise shell pick guard, 3 single mfd`s,maple neck.
many thanks for your time
regards Steve

Re: fretless S500
Hi Steve,
First welcome to the forum. Judging from the S/N (see the Serial number significance page), your S-500 is build somewhere between late '97 and late '98. You'd have to take off the neck for a definitive answer to how old your guitar is, but my bet would be somewhere between December '97 and March '98. Otherwise, there is not much I can add.
Hope this helps,
- Jos

Hi Jos,
many thanks for your reply , that ties in with the original owner having the guitar under the bed for 10 years or more, i understand he was a collector and was selling up due to ill health etc(.so the story goes )the S-500 is in very very good condition. As mentioned i am not a brilliant player but to have a fretless neck seems , well ??. a challenge, but the sound is superb (through my bad playing !!) ha ha

Steve, your a lucky guy. It appears to have an unlined Birdseye Maple neck. What a find. I wonder if it was originally an employee guitar? Welcome aboard-- Darwin

They offer replacement necks with their headstock design and complete G&L instruments with G&L headstock design. Click on the Guitars link anddorset steve wrote:just had a quick look at freenote music, the head stocks in the photostream are saying "freenote" mine has G&L S-500 , might drop them a line
then go to the bottom of that page and you will see this Fretless image and the list of the G&L models they current offer:
Hope this helps.
