What is this beautiful beast?

Post by peterthoresen »

Hello forum,
I recently purchased a beautiful beat up G&L guitar from a local music store.
I have fallen in love, this guitar is awesome! My question is, what is it?
It has a SC-1 neck, Patent applied Fullerton CA, with what looks like a Rampage single humbucker body. is it a real model or a project guitar?
It has 4 bolts on the neck.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Pete.

Please do post some photos of this instrument. For posting photos see: Tutorial: Posting photos.

An SC-1 neck will only have 3 bolts. How are you determining that it is an SC-1 neck?

Does the guitar look similar to the current Rampage (Jerry Cantrell Signature model), like this one?

Photos will definitely help us id this guitar.

First let me post your photos:

Here is what an SC-1 from the factory looked like (guitar on the left):

Someone really did a hack job on the original SC-1 (1982 - 1983) guitar. :BadIdea:

Here's a list of mods that I see:

1. Replaced the DF trem bridge (with serial number) with a Fender style trem bridge.
2. Relocated the neck away from the original neck pocket, probably to compensate for the replaced bridge.
3. Replaced the 3-bolt neck plate and micro-tilt neck adjuster with an unknown 4-bolt neck plate.
4. Either the body was replaced or the control cavity was filled, the original control plate was tossed and
the controls have been rear-loaded.
5. Probably refinished the body finish due to #4.
6. Added a side output jack.
7. Replaced the MFD soap-bar sized single coil pickup with some kind of dual blade humbucker.

The things that people do to a perfectly good guitar ... :shocked003:

Thanks Craig!
Even if it is not Period accurate or a true G&L SC1, I love everything about it!
Great weight, super fast and comfortable neck, and that old
Twin blade Humbucker is a Bill Lawrence, wich has just the Growl and output for my needs. When I was a Harley salesman we had a saying; "There's an Ass for every seat!" well, ... either I am one, (quite possible... Years of feedback.),
Or I found my Seat!
You and the the rest of the Forum have been Etremely helpful, Thank you!
Ive actualy really enjoyed the info hunt!
Can I still be a part of the G&l club, even if my Axe is a total bastard?
Hope so,
Thanks a million
Pete.

Pete,
I'd say somebody put an SC-1 neck on an aftermarket body and made it work.
If it feels good, play it... +1 on those SC necks...
