Glad to see ya round here. Lot of knowledgeable and helpful folks, jump in often and tell us about yer G&L’s, or any others ya got.

Thanks guys! My first G&L was purchased from Roy Ferguson from Roy and Candy's Music in Tulsa, OK in 1987. Custom ordered Transparent Blue Fretless El Toro. Loved that bass, but had to sell it when our kids were babies. Money was tight! Since then, I have picked up 5 G&L's, and love them!

I really like the L-1000s, the sound and feel really fit my tastes. The L-2000 and L-1500 are awesome, and very distinct from each other. The El Toro is an acquired taste, sometimes I love it, sometimes I don't. The L-1000s have body date stamps of July and August, 1980, so there are pretty early instruments in the G&L timeline. Better late than never finding this page!

What a beautiful set of basses! I assume the El Toro had a preamp in both cases. Unfortunately, that little detail is a bit hidden behind the killer L-1500. That thing has a very cool finish. But so do all others in the pic!

BTW Roy Ferguson has some renown in the G&L community. He (or his store) received one of the few (7 in the end) Lacewood Commemoratives with S/N #9 way back in the day.

I took a look at your picture: what a beautiful collection of basses! I am mostly a guitar player, but I have a L-2000 from 2002 that I need for doing bass tracks when I record for fun.

Roy was very nice to me. I live in CA but was visiting Tulsa, and had been looking for a fretless Jazz bass for some time. He didn't have any, but steered me to try G&L. I had never heard of G&L at the time, but was open to try anything he had. So glad I did. I still have a pick from his store. He is mentioned in several G&L books, appears that he was with G&L from the start.

And yes regarding the El Toro. I had active models for both. Big downside on the one I have now is that it weighs 11.6 pounds. No way I can make it through a 3 hour gig with that one!
