Friday LR -June 27

Sunshine !!!

Summer is here in the NW.
This vid is a little too accurate I'm afraid, good humor though!

I've been a little shy with the G&L content this week,
...forgive me?

Lunch for me today will be a toasted cheese (Daiya non-dairy pepper jack) with fruit salad
and an orange pelligrino soda.
If you search out non-dairy cheeses, go straight to the Daiya brand. It is good!
All the others I've tried haven't come close.
Image
http://www.daiyafoods.com/our-products/jack-wedge
Daiya is the triple bound gold plated commemerative ASAT of nondairy cheeses !!

Bindings :
Beside a couple LP's , I don't think any of my guitars have body bindings.
I like the natural stripe faux binding that G&L does...with a contoured back on a dark body, for some reason it to me it brings a sort of sexy sport car look. I'll have to find some pics that might help illustrate my impression.
What are you druthers?

There are some manufactures that put led's as side dots and even laser brights in the fretboard markers.
Sims is a company that retrofits led's into existing instrument necks (he had some magical drill bit I think).
http://www.simsled.co.uk/introduction/intro.html

I hear they can be great on a dark stage.
What are your thoughts? would you like to see LEDs in a G&L ?

FretFX makes a nice little strip that tacks on to the top of the neck.
The battery sits behind the tuners on the headstock .(just about where the mocrowave plate is)

I think Jos was the closest guess regarding the spark generating alien thought repelling tesla inspired creation.

I call it ZAPPO . It was a diesel furnace sparker (huge transformer) housed in what you see.
The picture you saw was 30 years ago...its a little worse for the wear, but it works great still.

Here is a short clip of it in action

What is it's primary purpose , any guesses?

I have to go put the bread in the oven...I wanted to get the baking done before it gets warm.
I'll post pics of todays fresh bread and a video clip of the ZAPPO in use.

Did anyone see that '84 hog Cav on ebay...can't afford it...but it's one of the nicest examples I've seen.
Cavalier Ebay

Image

I don't know the seller, but he has some nice vintage G&Ls listed...the prices seem a bit high, but sometimes
if you have time to spare that can be a reasonable selling strategy. Good porn in the least .

Lotsa good vibes to you all ...I look forward to checking back and adding some pics etc. after my late lunch.

Yup, I noticed that myself. He has several mid and late 80s ASATs listed. But, I'd LOVE to have this Broadcaster being sold by another seller:

Over the past several years, I've been kicking myself, for not buying a Broadcaster back in 1992, that I tried out at Dave's Guitar Shop. It was a nice guit, but I was in my Gibson phase, and ended up buying a Howard Roberts Fusion, that was my main gigging guitar througout the 90s. It's too bad. Dave's only wanted $750 for the Broadcaster. The one above, is going for $3600 on the 'Bay. :(

That's funny. I believe that at least the 2 Cavaliers mentioned in this thread, but also other G&Ls listed on daBay by West Vintage Guitar, were available through Buffalo Brothers before change of ownership. Am I wrong?

And thanks for the Almost Live! sketch. That one, and some others I watched after that, tickled my funny bone and made me somewhat sentimental. When my wife and I moved to Seattle in '95 it was a great 'introduction' to this wonderful town we have utterly fallen in love with!

P.S. So you don't all move here, although it is beautiful weather today it is still raining. It's just dry rain, very dry rain ... ;)

That would make sense, I thought maybe he had made a deal with Mr. Phatmat.
I love that blue S500.

( Jos, and now we have "the 206" ...I'm diggin it, ...and he made fun of the CarPros guy (ken phillips)
thank you Pat Cashman!!! I hear John Keister is doing some stand up shows around town. I'd like to see
him in person sometime)

Don't think I could live in Seattle

Passed up a Broadcaster when I bought my Nighthawk

Maybe the spark generator is a 1930's cigarette lighter ?? they was real serious about cigarettes back then.

Hey El , I am intersested in the other stuff you have raised but that Hog Cavalier is very distracting . I may or may not have a Broadcaster but the 82 Hog S -500 I own is a much better guitar . if anyone asks I don't know anything about it though .

You are correct sir, and a  Winner !! It was made in the early 80's by a local guy who is still making
amazing ceramic art.
Here it is in action. It is not UL rated :o

What gauge/brand strings do you use ? If you PM me all your vital information ( or maybe a po box) I'll send you
your prize .
I have a runners up prize for Jos since he nailed it even with an avocado with cloves for eyes in its headhole.
(I bet I could get that to you Jos sometime in person.)

Well done cuzwilly, I didn't think anyone one guess right.

Anthony,

I happen to know that hog Cavalier was built to Leo's specs as a present to Richard Smith who you might know as the author 'Fender: The Sound Heard Around The World'. Just so your know ;)

Geeze Louise Elwood! You're mystery item is a cigarette lighter? :o Will wonders cease?

Don't get me wrong people, the early Cavaliers are cool guitars, but in that (Mustang) body style, I'd prefer an SC-1 or an SC-2. Paige Hamilton of Helmet used to play an SC-2 before he formed Helmet. I think he even used it on the Helmet track "Biscuits For Smut" off of the Betty album - not just the video for the song (I remember him commenting on the guitar in a Guitar World interview, and how he used it for that track):

An SC-1 (ah luhvs muh single pickup guitars!), or an SC-2 are next on my want list.

Hey Jos, yeah great book. I know Richard was a tester for G&L back in the day . how much do you think is a fair price for the Cavalier?
And El I have an Interceptor X that's a parts guitar . in factI I am getting ready for a rehearsal and I'll be playing it . I love a parts guitar

And El

I guess it's a matter of what a buyer is willing to pay and what the seller's goals are. FWIW, I paid less than a quarter of what this guy's asking for my Cav-E. That was a couple of months ago. Mine's not mint, but it's 100% original with minimal dings for thirty years of playing.

IMO, a couple of this seller's listings are at the upper end of reasonable. Most are far too high for the current used market. The one that really got my attention was a 2008 Fender - at this point in time nothing more than a used instrument - that was listed for more than the exact same model costs new.
