Thursday Lunch Report- An Honor 04/11-2013

Thu Apr 11, 2013 4:18 pm

Open Forum and no one has posted. I just got back from Big Louis where I had a great Reuben sandwich and a couple of Nordeasts and the company of Ginny.

It is my 70Th birthday today and open forum, if it is an open forum when I hit 80, I may post again!

I am going to Ramble a bit today but I finished checking out the new version of the guitar builder and it is ready to go. It has the new models and the Alnico versions. I wanted to elaborate a bit about what this forum means to me. I wish I had know about it sooner. I first found it less than 5 years ago and laid in the weeds for some time before I finally posted. It was a bit different at that time and seemed to be a group of friendly guys sharing a bond through the product. The formant has changed, a lot of the old members are no longer here but we always have new members joining us and talking about the product. This is what most of us did, a good way to find out new information and I am a member of several forums, lurk on most of them but this is the one that I truly enjoy. It is a forum for us as long as we follow the guidelines and everyone is most respectful. The interesting things on this forum are supplied by the members other than the G&L announcement which Craig takes care of. I did a little research this week on the hits for different topics and as always, the forum guidelines are well read. The lunch reports are also popular. There are posts that are how too's by members of the forum and some of those are heavy hitters from a research aspect. I was surprised to see the number of hits that the G&L Guitar Builder has had. It is a big hitter and appears to be enjoyed by many of us including me. Again, this was posted by one of us. I have realized that this is truly our forum and I really enjoy it. There are so many people who are really experts in one thing or another and I know that a question will get answered, and all one has to do is ask and no one has ever made me feel stupid for asking anything. Craig had been extremely resourceful in interfacing with the factory on issues that would have been difficult to resolve. In the end, that is what this forum means to me, I truly enjoy it.

In my 5 years to G&L exposure I am still amazed at some of the new ones that I am seeing. We are still seeing real wood bodies, fretboards and even some cool new woods. So rather than ramble any more I want to thank Dave, (Darth) the G&L crew for the innovation they have shown us, Craig for helping us, and I want to express my appreciation to Cory and Tim at AGB for being such a wonderful dealer. I am done and going to settle in for a couple of cold one. Maybe an extra or two if someone gives me permission! Boy life is good!:happy0007: Darwin-- Just a bit older and hopefully wiser.

Sir,

Happy Birthday!

Your contribution to this site is always enjoyable and if I am still around when you are 80 I look forward to the Lunch Report.

I found this site a million years ago and have a few G&Ls as well as Heritage guitars. It is always good to see your cool new G&L's.

I will drink a Three Floyd's Alpha King in honor of your B-Day!

Happy Birthday

Happy 70th birthday, Darwin. :happy0065: :happyBD:

I for one hope you're still hanging around here feeding our collective gear lust when you're 80! You've been an ornament to the forum in the brief few years I've been hanging around here.

Happy birthday Darwin! I'm looking forward to your 80th birthday post, but not in any rush for us to get there. Has spring sprung in your neck of the woods yet?

You're probably getting a lot more hits on the guitar builder than this site's traffic shows. I've long since bookmarked it and just go straight to it. I've found another use for it too, as a "value indicator" for used instruments. When I look at any recent G&Ls, I always check to see what the same specs would cost me new. Of course, I usually drift off from there to building the flame top Lemondrop L-1500 that I will probably eventually buy from AG&B.

Happy 70th Darwin. Hope you're still posting here at 80 and by then, I assume you'll have worked your way up to a guitar for every year. And speaking of G&Ls, is that beaut next to the kitty your birthday present?

Congrats and many well wishes Darwin !!

I'm working on my '65 Ampeg Echo Jet 12...It's boggling to think you were already a
young wise man when Jesse Oliver was helping Ampeg crank all these cool old amps out the door.

...Love your new EM SH DFS* ASAT !!
*Those are the new steel saddles? Do have any other DFS G&L's for comparison...any impressions?
(do they feel rougher than the chromed saddles? :searching: )
I could play that guitar all day and all night (maybe one of those roasted maple boards just to spice things up).
I haven't been to the guitar builder lately. Sounds like it's working well for the community...kudos.

It's hard enough resisting the temptation to jump in the LE 2 pool. The headstock pic Jag posted looked great...something about the way headstock art/aesthetics/grain is approached and finished, etc. ...can really show the pride in the build.

Check out the headstock on what might be a Legacy proto??
I saw this on CL tonight, any ideas on this one ?? :

Your DF ASAT has me convinced that I need to add a DF to my current ASAT inspired build.
Hardtails are a little easier sometimes , but I have an extra assembly in the parts drawer and it just
seems right.

I better get to making some router templates and plans (maybe not in that order :) ).

Thanks everyone. Ginny had a surprise get together planned for last night. We had a major storm here yesterday with many schools closed. We are doing it tonight and I can have the kids help load the van for a gig tomorrow. Thanks again for the comments. No birthday guitar but I just got the one with Magic in the picture last week. She loves it!-- Darwin
