Thursday 12/20 Lunch

Thu Dec 20, 2012 11:11 am

Thanks again for all the replies yesterday!

Today I am heading out to lunch with a co-worker, he has suggested Chinese or Thai. Not too many choices in the area so it's starting to become a once a week thing. Not that I mind, I love the food, it's just not good for the 'ol waist line :shh:

G&L Topic of the Day: End of the World Tomorrow!

You can only choose one G&L that you own what do you take? Would you take a different guitar over one of your G&L's?

I would take my blue '06 ASAT special whom I've named "the Captain". He is the first G&L I owned, a gift from my Dad, who I lost last month, and an easy choice as it's the guitar that I judge all others by.

Off topic: End of the World Tomorrow!

Why are we (humans) so bent on predicting some catastrophic event that ends everything at once? Did anyone take into account the Mayan calendar may have ended 12/21/12 because they simply thought that was a good place to stop, or the fact that their civilization disappeared.

I am ready for the zombie apocalypse if that should come but this whole all at once thing doesn't sound as appealing :BadIdea:

Speaking of zombies!
My dog bit the arm off of one of my daughter's dolls and prompted me to make this...

Well I certainly hope it doesn't all end tomorrow, I have plans Saturday to try out that 70's Vibrolux Reverb

Hope to see you all tomorrow!

The 30th anniv is my best playing guitar. No name other than the "30th anni."

End of the World?
They have been making $$$$$ for centuries on this. It is always "it is going to happen in OUR time".
It never does, so a new updated version comes out. Make more $$$$$.
The Mayans had it wrong. They went too far ahead in the future, when they should have only did it by 10 years or less.
When you place the end of the world so far ahead in the future, no one pays attention. Keep it close, make money.

Hi Dave -

This has been a crazy week, so I apologize for not chiming in (I've been reading, though!). I'm glad to see you back on the board. We missed you. Very sorry to learn of the loss of your father. This holiday season is likely going to be a tough one for the family, no way around that. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Clearly though, Dad had great taste in guitars, eh? And he seemed to have done an excellent job in bringing you up in this crazy world.....

Regarding the all the apocalyptic stuff, I don't understand it at all, but it seems like every few years, someone or other is warning us to prepare for our doom. I think many of these folks misinterpret or take too seriously writings by primitive peoples. There is an irony here someplace.....

Still, I'd have a heck of a time selecting just one G&L to take with me into the next world. I appreciate the beauty and utility of each and every one. I suppose I'm still kind of star-struck with the new Yellow Fever Legacy I got last Summer. I could certainly see spending eternity exploring her every nuance. There's a thread about her in the Porn section, in case you missed it.

Have a great day, Dave, and welcome back! - ed

The one G&L would be a '93 Asat Classic.

the world already ended twice this year, on may 25th and october 25th. another dozen or so times according to jw's in the past century. every time their membership dwindled, they predicted another end. i know it's gonna be the end of the world to some poor sap whose wife will tell him tomorrow that she has been cheating on him.

i want the g&l i have on order, but with the tinted satin finish (will have it), and the nena finish (i hope i can).

As for the world ending, if does, I won't know it. I'll be dead, or something like that. So I am not too worried about it.

As for the guitar I would take: G&L ASAT-S3. Easiest playing electric I've ever owned. For my acoustic, my Gibson L4. It's a recent model, not the old arch top. If I wanted to make some happy music, I would need a 'Ukulele. In this case, my Beltona resonator in custom red/yellow sunburst.

Howdy Dave,

If I had to take only one, it would still be my Butterscotch ASAT Classic, the first ASAT I ever got. This not withstanding all of the other unique and way more rare ASAT's in the collection. But since the world is NOT going to end, I don't worry about it. All I know is that anybody that believes the world ends tomorrow is in for some hectic X-mas shopping ;)

And I'm still wondering whether the apocalyptic date has been corrected for the about 10 days lost in the transition from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar in October 1582.

jos, it's about 13 days now, that's why the russian orthodox 25th is on january 7th.

the world is not gonna end, as i am in charge now. the other guy has lost his privileges, and i am having way too much fun to end it yet. i will let you know if i change my mind, but unlikely will it be in your lifetime.

... well what do you know .... yet another pollie missed the mark.

Which Guitar Wouldn't be a G&L ... a Les Paul is going to do a lot more damage to them zombies.

btw welcome back Dave and a good week of reports and pics.
cheers, Robbie

Well, I waited and am still here to post. I was still in the computer business when we were preparing for the Y2K disaster. I know that companies made a ton of money from that and there were virtually no problems as a result of preparation. There was no preparing for this one, you just hang on!

I played my Classic S a couple of days ago plugged in. It is an animal. If I had been worried about today, I would have put it in the case and set it aside. I have been watching Magic and Sam the last couple of days and they have convinced me there is nothing to worry about. There intensity level has been zero and they sleep most of the day. Thanks for the fun week Dave.-- Darwin

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad, Dave.

If I had to pick a post-apocalyptic G&L tonight it would be my El Toro:

With everybody else bringing guitars, somebody needs to hold down the bottom end.

If I could sneak along a second, it would be my SC-1:
