i just got back from watching the new james bond movie. perfect timing. i finished work at 12:30, the movie started at 12:30 and by the time i got there i just missed all the previews. great movie. i am also looking forward to the hobbit. any good movies any of you have seen lately?

thanks for the tips on the minivans, i'll be looking around at the ones suggested to see if i can get a deal.

we haven't talked about amps yet, blarg brought up the 100 watters in another thread, and i have a twin that's 85 watts and it is insanely loud.
what is you dream amp? do you already have it? i love my ampegs and ceriatone ots 50, but i am saving up for a two rock custom reverb signatture v3 50watt combo.

Hey Louis. Great week. I've been reading but have not had much time to participate - and I regret that.

The vid you posted today is interesting in a number of ways to me. But what strikes me is how the player uses his 5-way switch to find just the right sound for the passage at hand. As a simple "set it and forget it" marginal player, I found this to be inspiring. Dude has a great axe to boot!

As far as dream amps go, for a long time I've been enamored with (by?) the Carr Rambler and the Soldano Decatone (though I know in my heart that a vintage Princeton Reverb would probably suit me just about perfectly as a basement player).

PS: Don't get to the movies very much - haven't been to an actual theater in a number of years.... On cable, I tend to watch old silly flicks like Animal House, Meatballs, Airplane, etc. Simple me.

if you like the carr rambler, a nice amp, i compared it recently to a fryette memphis 30 watt combo, and the rambler was blown away. so was i. that is one fine amp. check one out if you can. the soldano astroverb is also very nice, i have played the very first one ever built. #2 went to eric clapton.

Louis - congratulations on the 2000th post

I can't wait to see the new Bond film, mainly to see Javier Bardem as the villain. My girlfriend is a raving Bond fan too, she's also really excited about it. Its released here next week, and we'll be on a plane to Singapore on its release date, so we have decided to see it there. Two things to be excited about next week!

Try as I might, I just cannot get the guitars from the builder to look good.

Dream amp? I'll take a JTM45 on a 412 loaded with Celestion greenbacks and a Princeton Reverb.

I have to admit that I don't have an "amp of my dreams". The closest would be a vintage Ampeg B-15 for my basses. I can only imagine what the 'hog L1K would sound like through one of them. I tested a PRS bass through an SVT last weekend. The sound pressure coming out of that 8x10 cab was wonderful, even at low volumes. The fact that the cab alone weighs 160 pounds rules it out, even if I had the space for it and tolerant enough neighbors!

My dream G&L changes every time I open the guitar builder. Lately it's been tending toward a semi-hollow ASAT Bass in Honeyburst, with a quartersawn neck (light tint), and fretless rosewood board.

The only movie I've been to lately has been Finding Nemo in 3D. It was the first 3D film I've been to, and was pleasantly surprised that the 3D effect only sharpened the image and added a little bit of depth. I guess I was expecting things to float (or swim) out of the screen at me. Finding Nemo works well enough without any gimmicks. It's been a favorite of my son's for several years, so I've long since had every word of dialog memorized. It's still enjoyable every time, though.

I pretty much have my dream rig with the Express 5:25. If I really want to go loud (which hardly ever happens anymore) I can crank it up through my Mesa TriAxis/2:90/Thiele cabs combo.

My dream guitar is any of the models I still have on my wish list. There are still about 5 important, i.e. relevant to what my ultimate goal is, and 10 or so nice to haves. But even so, most of those are not accessible through the guitar builder. But sometimes dreams do come true ...

Movies? The last movie I saw was the latest Batman and only because it was a company outing. I have honestly lost most interest for that medium and rather watch a documentary on NetFlix than going to the cinema. Or just play my guitar ...

Last film I saw was "The Expendables 2", a guilty pleasure. Can't wait to see Bond and Lincoln.

Dream amp? Well I have the five Boogie amps, so I'm pretty set. The Mark IV 112 combo on top of my 112 EVM Thiele cab is a fabulous all-around amp, with a small stage footprint. My Mark III 200-watt Coliseum head into the 412 EVM/C90 Half-Back cab is so muscular and dynamic, and liquid at the same time. It can be hella loud, but 2.5 on the master isn't too loud, yet it sounds good. The Maverick 212 combo is chimey and delicious, and on top of the Recto 212 gets Fender, Vox and Marshall tones. Love, love, LOVE these amps!

I wouldn't mind having my old 1965 Deluxe Reverb, my Super Champ and my 1964 Tremolux back, but otherwise, I'm set.

I won't use the software, but if you could imagine a Ruby Red Legacy Special with ebony board, matching headstock, GOT birdseye neck, graphite nut, locking tuners, white pearl guard, white knobs...and gold hardware. And then I'll take one in that deep blue.

And a Comanche 12-string.

ken, i love ted greene. i watch his blues lessons all the time, of course i can never even come close.
i stopped watching movies in 3d at the theater, as my tv at home is so much superior, i wait for the 3d bluray release, and thing float and jump and all that. the movie 3d experience is very disappointing in comparison.

sscandyman, that is a great looking guitar, looking forward to the porn. i like those alessandro amps. very nice.

gdub, that is great playing indeed, and the guy has one of the coolest beards i have seen. mine looked just like that before i shaved the middle and braided it.

jos, i think your dream guitar choice just depends on what case to open. btw, i played a very similar setup in my metal days, triaxis and a 50/50. before that an ada mp1 and b200 combination.

bill, i would love one of those tremoluxes. great amps. i am also looking forward to lincoln, the previews look great.

i forgot to say what i had for lunch. today it was a turkey, sundried tomato omelet and a nutella/espresso crepe for desert right after the movie.

I love this S-500 and it's a pitty, that later and recent models are just Legacys with MFD pickups and locking tuner machines.
It can be easily seen what I mean, by looking under the (metal!) pick guard:




Don't get me wrong, I love my Legacy too, but after all it's just a copy of a Stratocaster, as someone pointed out on a session gig, as he asked me,
if I would let him play on my "Stratocaster reproduction". I told him about G&L and he apologized, haha.

The guitar you pictured is beautiful. sscandyman also posted a winner. I have experimented with different ones using the builder and with all the options and colors it is hard to make a choice, but I still wish they made a hollow ASAT 5 string bass.

Great week Louis and I have not watched some of the clips but will sometime over the weekend. As for amps, I am set and am not looking for any more. I would be tempted if a nice used Rivera at an astonishing low price showed up! I think I may lay low for a while after car shopping yesterday!-- Darwin

I have a Super Champ XD that I use at home. I swapped out the eletro-harmonix tubes with Tung-Sol 6V6GT's and a Tung-Sol 12AX7.Then I swapped the speaker for a Celestion G10 vintage. It's much louder than it was before. The clean channel takes pedals very well.

I have not heard a Swart AST in person, but all of the clips I have heard have left me impressed. I would consider one of those for sure.

I couldn't decide on guitars so I'm submitting two.

I didn't have time to participate this week as work was very busy. But, it looks like an excellent week of reporting and participation. The vids were great. I especially liked the tone and playing on the modded ASAT. Great job on that!

I don't know if I have a dream amp at the moment. But I have owned some great sounding rigs. Probably my favorite was a Matchless SC30 paired with a Naylor SuperClub 38. That was an awesome rig. You got the nice Vox vibe from the Matchless with this real punchy midrange from the Naylor.

For big amps, I'd have to go with the Germino SuperLead 55 paired with the oversize 2x12 cabinet. That is a stadium rig for sure! My current "big" rig is a Mesa MK V combo. I'm not real crazy about the 10-watt tones, but when you set it to the 40-watt and 90-watt power sections, it really comes to life. But, we don't gig at any venues big enough for it.

Playing catch up after six weeks of travelling. Great week and I've really enjoyed listening to some really nice playing. Still astounded when I see what happened to your original Bluesboy! ... but you at least got a good outcome with its replacement!
