Wednesday 1st August

Thankfully I got over whatever it was that ailed me yesterday. The tram ride home was incredibly uncomfortable!

Lunch today was a chicken sandwich with sorrel in it. I just discovered sorrel this week. It’s not something you get in shops, but we grew some in the garden. It has the texture of spinach, and a lemony taste. Its easily the nicest salad green I’ve eaten. I intend to eat a lot more of it as it grows!

G&L
One of the parts of a G&L that I LOVE are the strap buttons. They do a great job of keeping the strap attached to the guitar. I previously used strap locks, but those things are an inconvenience if you don’t have them on all of your guitars and only have one strap.

James Bond
We were at the cinema recently and saw the ad for the new JB film. I always get really excited for JB films, and the recent ones have been excellent. I'm really keen to see Javier Bardem in the role of the villain. That guy is fantastic.
Whats your favourite Bond film?
Mine is Goldeneye. Brosnan is not my favourite Bond (that is of course Connery), but I think that film is easily one of the best.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – We Call Upon The Author.
One of my favourite songs of one of my favourite albums by one of my favourite bands. I love the bass line in this one. There’s some strong language in this one so if that’s likely to offend then don’t listen!

They’re certainly not everybody’s cup of tea – my girlfriend HATES them and I can’t get away with listening to it when she’s around! Last time I saw these guys live was at a natural amphitheatre - Belvoir amphitheatre near Perth - which would have to be one of the most stunning venues for a concert in the world. The bass player had the coolest rig ever – an 810 Ampeg cab laid on its side with two Ampeg SVT heads, side-by-side, on top of it. GROWL!

Lastly, here's a gratuitous photo of the Korina Jr II (pronounced Korina Jr the second), I think G&L did a great job on these all round, not least visually. I think it looks every bit as classic as the blonde in this shot

Those Asat's are nice. G&L could drop all their other guitars and just make Asat's as far as I am concerned. Great guitars and the jr. is beautiful.

Awesome,

Glad to hear you've recivered quickly

strap buttons. I've never had strap locks and never had a problem. Just got to not keep using a strap beyond its use by date.

Favourite Bond? Connery, Craig, Dalton in that order. Absolute least favourite was Roger Moore ... too much ladies man and not enough action man for my liking.

Whats your favourite Bond film?

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Anyone who read my LRs last year probably wouldn't be suprised that I'm a fan of Nick Cave. For those who chose not to watch Jamie's choice, here's one of my favourites featuring former Bad Seed Blixa Bargeld. No language issues but the boys would have lost their licenses if they'd been caught driving home.

My girlfriend HATES them My wife isn't a fan either. I was given a couple of tickets to that Belvoir concert (early 2009?) and "had" to go with with a friend from work who was a HHUUGGEE NC fan - a recently separated, stunning ,,,, Oh sometimes its so so hard having morals (sigh).

Belvoir amphitheatre near Perth - which would have to be one of the most stunning venues for a concert. Agreed ... seen many a great show there and even had the priviledge to play there a couple of times. I do like The Quarry as well though.

Oh, and yes, I've been to both of those Claremont Restaurants you mentioned yesterday :-). When you get down to it ... for a city of nearly 2 million people, Perth has to be one of the biggest small towns you'd find anywhere.

cheers, Robbie

Wow. I'd love to have the Belvoir on the list of places I've played! Another great thing about the venue is that you get to stop at Alfies burger joint on the way home.
Funnily enough, I was given tickets to the concert too - we were working on Martyn Casey's house at the time and he sorted us out with some freebies. My mate was the guy that was getting a hard time from security when NC stopped the band playing to have a go at them :)
Perth really is a small place - I'm sure we'd have a mutual friend or two! We'll have to have a beer if you're ever over in Melbourne

The Asat's are a fine pair. I have only seen the original James Bond so I cannot vote. I didn't even know there were a bunch more. I like my cave,

I haven't reviewed the sound clips as it takes a while to download them but I did download your clip from yesterday and it is still one of my faves. It is a masterpiece country song and your Asat tone is as good as it can get.

I agree the G&L strap buttons are the finest for safety. I have still replaced most of them with Schaller strap locks. I have tried several brands of strap locks and Schaller is the only one I will use. I had a Ernie Ball strap lock let loose on my Stingray 5 and was lucky to catch it. They have the 3 bearings that pop out into a groove and do not always lock. There are other brands that do the same and are not bullet proof. -- Darwin

I love the G&L strap buttons! Its always disappointing to find them removed from the used G&LS that I have picked up.
I like strap locks but I prefer the G&L buttons. They have never let me down.

Hey Jamie,

I'm a +1 as far as G&L strap buttons are concerned. Never had problems with them. But then again, I am not a gigging musician and maybe the story would be different if you have to sling the same guitar with the same strap around your shoulders night after night. BTW, I also like the strap button PRS is using.

There is only one Bond, James Bond and that would be the one played by that Scottish fella. I guess that he himself would claim; 'If it ain't Scottish it must be CRAP!' And hence I like the old ones. Dr No and Goldfinger are still classics.

Glad you're feeling better, Blarg.

Congratulations on your new ASAT. Just stunning. I want to hear more about the G&L P-90's, having never heard them myself. How do they compare to some of the other P-90's we might be familiar with?

Thanks - ed

Darwin, thats one hell of a cave you're in!

Ed - I haven't really had any time with other P90s so cant compare them sorry! I can tell you that I love the sound thats coming out of the guitar. The video Craig linked has a very nice example of their sound (about 9 minutes in), and the guy in it explains the guitar much more eloquently than I ever could

i only know of 2 bonds, brosnan and craig. the others were before my time. my favorite movie is casino royal, mainly because of 2 of my favorite actors, jeffrey wright and mads mikkelsen in there. goldeneye and quantum solace follow.

i change all strap buttons to schaller straplocks. when all your straps have them, it only makes sense. if i had only one strap for all my guitars, it would make even more sense.
