Report for July 3rd

Tue Jul 03, 2012 10:09 am

Another hot one today, only 90 but I don’t like 90 I’m more of a 75 guy, what’s your preferred temp range?

Lunch was breakfast, busy day! three eggs and rye toast, coffee.

Casey, you asked which one of those guitars gets the most play time, none of those guitars in the pics gets played as much as my 82-S-500 you just won’t see it on the bench because it doesn’t need anything but a string change and cleaning ounce in a while.

IMO it’s the perfect guitar, Leo wanted to improve on the original Strat and I think he did a wonderful job!! The look, the feel, the MOJO, it’s all there in spades, there’s something about those square ended MFD’s that just rock, the combination of the woods, circuit, aluminum pickguard and those MFD’s just meld together to perfection.
I’ve had three 82 500’s one ash body with maple neck #1, ash body with hog board #2, both keepers and hog body hog board, didn’t like that combo and sold it recently, I’d love to find one with a maple body but they are rare.

I wish G&L would dissect those old square enders and bring them back to the fold along with the aluminum guards.

It’s zombie time, what would you like to see G&L bring back from the dead.

What’s you #1 player and why?

gotta go so here's some random pics, hope you enjoy

Hot guitar girl coochie coochie!

Glad to see another S-500 fanatic like myself.
I bought a metal guard for my newest S-500. The look and feel is nice, but it does add weight. I never had a problem with the plastic ones.

Anywhere is the 70s is fine with me.

Guns for the 4th is a great idea. Maybe LR should only focus on guns and ammo tomorrow.

Who is GW?

I like it HOT, but 80s with low humidity.

There is a red 82 S-500, lefty for sale here, sure is tempting..............

Cool work Bench With :WD-40, Bud Light, Propane, coffee and Ernie Ball strings along with the usual variety of screwdrivers and tools.
What couldn't be set up on that bench?

I just noticed that you painted the walls in your office the same yellow as the SC-3 you are playing! Thats a lot of yellow!

I have been relegated to my basement crate furniture, coffee table for a workbench. Even then I get harassed if it gets too junky!

Cool post with your 82 S-500. I have a white one and it kicks ass.

My favorite outside temp is 80 degrees with low humidity. Low humidity is a rare occurance ,in the Wash. D.C. area in the summer.

West Side,

I stumbled across a maple 500 last year so they do exist. The s-500 's are sweet guitars.

That yellow sc-3 is beautiful!

My main guitar lately has been a saddle lock bridge version sc-3 second body style. That guitar just doesn't get put away. It has big fat frets on it and is a joy to play. My second "go to" guitar is my faithful Heritage.
Les Paul tone and so easy to play.

Stay cool,

y2kc

Remember that guitars don't write bad songs, people write bad songs!

Favorite outside temperature varies dramatically on what I'm doing.

Howdy duck,

Kicked almost more on the old scope than the guitar Porn included in your post.

My main player nowadays is my SC-2, shortly followed by my SC-1. What a kick are these guitars. Like with your S-500, plenty of mojo to go around. I wish G&L would bring back the old maple bodied ASAT III with full set of era-correct S-500 pups (which would mean enamel coated wire of a slightly different gauge and less windings if I'm not misinformed). Those are fantastic sounding work horses.

True statement. But don't forget the guitar provides the tool to write bad songs ;)

westside, those strings still sit too low in the nut. the low and high e actually look right, the rest sit too low.

I don't mind temps in the 80's as long as the humidity is lower than the temp.

I wish G&L would dissect those old square enders and bring them back to the fold along with the aluminum guards.
Good question!

It’s zombie time, what would you like to see G&L bring back from the dead.
G-200?

What’s you #1 player and why?
That'd be my Thornton Legend Special. No bling or push/pull phase splitting whatevers, great tone, and plays easy.

Guns and guitars...can't get more American than that! I've gotten into shooting lately and recently purchased a Ruger Hunter Convertible in .22LR and .22 WMR along with a Ruger Single Ten in .22LR. I also picked up a new Rossi M92 in .44 Magnum. It sounds like a cannon at the range.

I had a mahogany body S500 that I really liked. I don't recall why I sold it. I think if I was in the market for another Strat style guitar, the S500 would get some serious consideration.
