The answer to Wednesday's somewhat trick Trivia question - Kim Deal of the Pixies.

Jazzrat & dntthnktwce nailed yesterday's - Waylon Jennings - the 70's TV show - The Dukes of Hazzard.

And yesterday's prize goes to Jazzrat due to posting a pic of Tuffy. Congrats! (Still have to check re my copy of Animals)

Yes, Waylon Jennings at that time was the bassist for the Buddy Holly, having replaced original Crickets' bassist Joe B. Mauldin. Waylon gave up his seat to J.P. The BIg Bopper Richardson who had the flu the day the music died. The ill-fated coin toss was between guitarist Tommy Allsup and Ritchie Valens...

One critic has called Buddy Holly "the single most influential creative force in early rock and roll." and as most of you are proly aware the Beatles chose their name in honour of the Crickets.

Creative force - Hmmm, interesting choice of words...

Most folks - myself included - have viewed Buddy Holly as wholesome and innocent due impart to the clean-cut image he possessed. Apparently he possessed another side as well as something else that most likely would've given Tommy Lee a run for his money...

Little Richard sheds some light on this in his autobiography....
LR and his girlfriend, Angel were having a tryst backstage in LR's dressing room when in walks Mr. Holly... LR states, Buddy wasted no time & promptly joined in. LR goes on to say that Buddy hears his name being announced while in the thick of things so he quickly finished up and ran out on stage while still buckling his belt.... LR exclaimed - he came and he went!
LR also recounts that Buddy possessed a characteristic that has also been attributed to Jimi Hendrix.... not going there other to say that if true it sure gives new meaning to the lyrics in Oh Boy!

I was hoping to post some current pics of Char, my burnt '90 ASAT Sig that I scored for $10 @ the Midway Swap Meet. Bout the time I met Jackie, I snatch'd a cool '86 ASAT neck from a fellow GbL'r who was offering it up at the time.... had a bone nut added and fitted it to Char - turned out great!
Alas no pics of her as she currently resides in NZ w/ Jackie, but you can see & hear her in action at the end of today's report....

I traded with a guitar buddy to have her stripped - if i had seen her in her in-between stages, I wouldve had him stop right there... I think the red & white motif would've been right at home in Spot's Alice Cooper Tribute band, Devil's Food, right next to a Naughty Nurse or 3!!

Sadly, I havent found the time to compete her so she's on the chopping block...

This belonged to my Dad... Not alot of info on it other than his folks bought if for him to take lessons on. I had a friend's buddy fix it up and one of my goals is to learn how to play it.

Kate makes reference to Paganini in the 2nd verse...
Proly the most celebrated violin virtuosi as far as guitarists are concerned... having influence many modern day musicians and composers.
Paganini was reported to have an electrifying prescence and his astounding prowess on the instrument caused many a woman to get rather excited...to the extent that some people believed he was possesed by the devil.
He had exceptionally long fingers and was capable of playing three octaves across four strings in a hand span, a feat that is still considered impossible by today's standards! His seemingly unnatural ability could have been a result of Marfan syndrome which gives one very long limbs and fingers...

This song features violin in the intro and contains one of my fav guitar solo. It came out my senior year of high school and was a huge hit....
Being a bit naive, it took me a while to suss what naughiness the title refers to...

I and my cofounder got our start in the late 60's. Our first band featured Chevy Chase on drums. Years later, the band that we rose to fame in recruitted Sony & Cher's young studio drummer. We had a slew of hits and even more personnel changes... some of our songs & album titles were of a salacious nature and we took our name from something mentioned in the William S. Burrough novel, The Naked Lunch.
What's the name of our group?


Ok, Finally -

It's FRiDAY - WHO'S GIGGING?!? (I know there's now another place to post weekend billings so I don't expect ya'll to post here)

I'm not - but i'm going to jam Sat pm with some folks I've never played with before... should be fun.


I will end my stint as this week's LR with a clip of a benefit gig that Spot & I played last December here in Seattle - complete w/ a bit of a Spinal Tap moment...We decided to double the 2nd half of the solo but neither one of us gave any thought that the rhythm would fall right out the bottom...



This was the 1st of 3 tunes we did together... Btw, alot of folks assume the title refers to a part of the femaie anatomy proly due to the 'dive down deep' lyric phrase. Apparently Ann Wilson revealed in interviews that the song was about Heart's anger towards Mushroom Records attempted publicity stunt involving her and her sister Nancy in a made-up lesbian affair.... interesting.

Alright Folks - That brings to a close this rather long lascivious report.... Oh, & to top it off - whoever comes up with the largest tally of sexual references/innuendos in this LR wins a copy of Jimi's Blues CD.

I had a blast this week being back in the saddle so to speak...Hope it was good for you too

That would be The Leather Cannary later morphing into an 'obscure band' called "Steely Dan", only popping up, what, every decade?

I like mahogany guitars and that one came out sweet. A very nice refinish IMHO.

I have a violin. It's in peices and I got it for 12.50 as a project to fix.

I don't play but your father's violin looks like it may be a nice instrument.

I am not familiar with Kate Bush but I listened to half of her tune and its not really my thing.

There are a whole lot of sexual references inyour post , but I don't have time to count them up.

Nice playing at your Dec 09 gig. It sounded great. Barracuda is no easy tune to pull off.

I am gigging tonight with the Capital Blues Ensemble, at a place called "The Delta Blues Juke Joint"
It is in Waldorf MD about an hour's drive, so I hope it is good tonight.

My wife is a huge Kate Bush fan. I can do without her squeaky vocals but do love a lot of her stuff.
The wife has a couple of Kate's video collections. Back when our daughter was a tot she used to ask to watch the
"Kate movies". Some of them were a bit weird and scary for a 3 year old but she loved them, still does.

I see I'm a bit late on the trivia. Oh Well. Still loves me some Steely Dan.

Great work this week! "Midnight" is indeed a scorching track --- intense and relentless. He likes to bend 'em.
