Re: Cust..ummm? L-2000 fretless
I saw another good one on eBay tonight. Somebody has "brand new" SC-2 (reissue, but prior to the appliance tags) from his "private collection" for sale for $1500. Apparently Fullerton Red is a very rare color these days...
There is also an early SB-2 that has been tormenting me. The auction ended with no bids (starting bid was $650, BIN $900) yesterday, but now it's posted again with the same prices. If it was an '89-'90 build or a first-style SB-1, I would have been all over it. It would go well with my new project SC-2 (which I haven't done a NGD post for yet).
BTW, GC has an 1990s ASAT with case for $499. I've resisted the temptation to call about it. The photo on their site only shows the headstock, so I'm not sure whether the photo was an attempt at art or the body has been desecrated. It has a slab board, but not a "Guitars by Leo" decal.

Where did I miss a blue '86 ASAT? That wasn't on the list of color options for ASATs, so I would be very interested in seeing it.
If I didn't already have a black/ebony/Kahler '86 ASAT, I would be selling something right now to make room for the one on GC's website. I know that G&Ls with Kahlers get a bad rap, but mine sounds very nice to my ears. I'd actually give it a slight edge over my '86 hardtail (also maple/ebony) in the tone department. Both guitars are black, so the paint wouldn't be part of the difference.

I missed a descriptor or two ,I meant to say "'86 L-2000 Bass in blue" , sorry about that. Had that ASAT on my mind.
I'd like to see a poormans b'caster in clear blue...the new specials just don't seem the same without the 3 bolts and black crinkle.

I love flame through a clear or 'burst finish. Flames on a decal doesn't do it for me though!Elwood wrote:I missed a descriptor or two ,I meant to say "'86 L-2000 Bass in blue" , sorry about that. Had that ASAT on my mind.

I checked on the $499 ASAT at GC during my lunch break. It is either a parts guitar with an '89 ASAT neck, or an '89 ASAT III that's been through some rather stupid mods. The pickguard is three-ply and hand shaped, and the pickups are probably a Legacy set. The body has been drilled for a four-bolt neck and then filled, and the neck plate is most likely from the mid-90s. Somebody could make an interesting restoration project out of it, if they're up to some paint blending and either want the Legacy sound or like swapping pickups.
I'll testify to that, brother!Elwood wrote:.the new specials just don't seem the same without the 3 bolts and black crinkle.
