From the G&L website
With guitars by leo decal:
Without guitars by leo decal:
Sorry, I don't know the reason behind this. Though, I have a theory that the black lettering would not
show clearly on the Blue Flake headstock, so they used a G&L decal without it.
It's on my list to talk about with Malcolm (Master Painter), as he is the one who applies the decals on
the headstocks. I hope to visit to the G&L Factory some time in December.
Stay tuned.

it doesn't have anything to do with being or not being made in the USA does it?

i wonder if i could just call G&L and ask them?

I have a Legacy without the "Guitars by Leo," and I've seen quite a few USA G&L guitars like this as well. I posed this very same question on the forum a few years ago, and no one really had an answer as to why this is. I guess I just accepted it as such and never really bothered to think about it again. Although, now that you ask, why is that?

No, and didn't we already determine your Z-3 was USA built? FYI, the Z-3 model is a USA only model.
Jim's post got me to go back to the archives and a quick search of the 2008 posts turned up the answer
from Dave McLaren (aka Darth Invader). Here is his response:
"It's not missing, it's just that not all models have the "Guitars by Leo" subscript beneath the logo.
We actually have different sized G&L logos depending on the models, and some did have the GbL
subscript and some didn't. Eventually, they'll all have the GbL subscript, but it's the world's longest
phase-in.
See, some parts were bought in such huge quantities by Leo that we're still running on them.
Take the SC-2 that's back: Those headstock decals are NOS. And those 3-position toggle switches
on the SC-2, and back on the Super, Junior and others, well they're also NOS back to the '80s and
I suppose the G-200. Welcome to G&L. ;- )
Dave"So, there you go. And they are STILL in the phase-in.
Hope this helps ease your concerns.

sweet guys thanks for all the info!

Yeah, my '98 Legacy doesn't have it. Hopefully the one I'm ordering will!!

Most of mine don't. My S-500 is also missing the triangular graphic:
I've since replaced the stock string tree w/ a Tusq. Now it's the only one I've seen w/ a white(bone color) string tree!
Cheers,
Will

Hi all,
I raised a very similar question a while back:
http://guitarsbyleo.com/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=2431Curious to know why, but Craig's answer below goes some way to answering that one now.
Thanks.
Bill
