Case of the Mondays Lunch TPS Report - Monday Sept 27

Mon Sep 27, 2010 8:27 am

Good morning from the G&L Internets! Please turn to page 193 in your hymnals.

Pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name...

Some of you may know me, but some may not. My name is Chris Sistrunk and I've been a G&L fan and owner since 2007. My handle Kodor comes from my days when we had BBSes (1995ish)...everybody had to have a cool "gamertag." I live in the Jackson, Mississippi area with my wife and two children. I'm a Sr. Engineer for Entergy...a large power utility in the South. I own 2 G&L guitars and 2 basses. I like all kinds of music, but my soul likes to play blues...which is handy 'cause Mississippi is chock full-o-blues! I've Last time I was Lunch Reporter was back in 2008...so this is my 1st go-round on the new digs.

Lunch

I brought leftover pizza and a coke for lunch. This will probably be my lunch...unless some coworkers decide to go somewhere...which happens every now-and-then.

G&L Topic of the Day

The last time (and only time sofar) that the G&LDP had a special-to-us guitar was in 1999.

Image

Our bretheren at http://www.badassbassplayers.com have had 3 or so Limited Edition basses. I wonder if it's time for another G&LDP Limited Edition custom guitar?

Would YOU be interested in coming up with a design...drumming up enough folks to get in on the deal...and pitching it to G&L?
Please vote above and if you feel like it, put your reasons in your reply.

Non-G&L Topic of the Day
I feel like I'm dragging today for some reason. Like Garfield and Peter Gibbons...I may be coming down with a case of the Mondays. So my non-G&L question is:

Have you seen the movie "Office Space" and what did you think?

I hope y'all have a great Monday...can't wait to see your responses!

I'd be interested in a forum-sanctioned re-issue rather than a customization. Let's get some G-200's made. Old School.

I've seen the movie a few times. I remember copier/toner issues and fax machine troubles. Somebody find me a time machine.

Cheers,

Will

Power eh? Electrical Engineer then?

I voted maybe. The reason I voted maybe is I just bought a new axe and it is still being built. Such a thing would have to be done over a good amount of time to muster to cash to exchange for such a thing. Nor do I go for quick expansions. That and if the end design was nothing something I am looking for, I would not get one just to say I had it. It is unlikely I would go for the final product either, as I am extremely picky. So a guitar bred of compromise would likely be something inherently not for me (with my no compromise ways).

Haven't seen office space, but today is a test of everything I can muster. I'll let me geek show a bit and say it is going to be rough tonight as I have to DM a table top game.

Yup...I shoulda mentioned Electrical Engineer. So if you want to know why large transformers hum....it's because they don't know the words. (ducks as tomatoes are thrown)

Office Space?? Oh Yeah! That's one of those dopey movies that I've seen about a million times and
I could watch it a million more. Truly a modern classic. For cube dwellers like me it hits a little too
close to home sometimes.

"The thing is, Bob, it's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care."

I put in a "maybe" on the poll for a new GbL LE guitar. It would depend on many things. Like money
supply. And if the guitar in question was something I'd really be interested in. But I do find the
original GbL LE to be pretty desirable thing.

Hey Chris,

Electrical engineers are in big demand, I would estimate, since our national power grid is rather outdated, right?
I don't know much about it but I know we tend to lose power on a regular basis with any sort of storm.

Limited editions: The Gbl Le was before my joining this board, but I do remember the Bluesboy and the Trinity, both of which happened before the special edition basses. One thing to remember, the bass special editions are all stock models. The only customizations were the finish and fingerboards done in ebony with no markers. That and a headstock sticker don't make it much of a new model.
Now if you did a bass with a split pu and a humbucker or a carved top with new pickups, it would be a new model. Sort of like the Trinity was a new model that was not offered by G&L in any other guitar they made.

I 've seen Office Space. It is starting to get dated and it is still very funny but its not a flick for small children.

Good to hear from ya again Hoss.

Do you remember All in the Family and Lionel Jefferson with the running I am going to be an electrical engineer bit.

I guess I am sitting on the fence regarding custom or special edition guitars. There are plenty of fine stock guitars out there that would make me happy and I do not feel ther need to have something very few other folks own.

But if there was a guitar that would get me aroused it would be something like the return of the ASAT 50 - give it to me with a big fat birdseye maple neck or maybe a neck with a slab ebony board in a nice color like a Daphne Blue or Dakota Red (sorry I ain't sure what G&L calls those colors and I am too lazy to go look it up).

Never seen The Office so I cannot comment.

Ok, an ASAT 50 or Trinity would be great too! Else I'd take a maple bodied something.

Hey Chris -

As an electrical engineer, what do you think of the Bloom Box?

As a lefty, I would only be interested in a G&L creation if it were ALSO offered in a LH version. Maybe something like a Maple body S-500 hardtail with H-S-H pickups, wide Birdseye Maple neck with gun-oil finish, stainless steel frets, Schaller locking tuners? :P

Saw Office Space a couple times - funny stuff!

Re: Case of the Mondays Lunch TPS Report - Monday Sept 27

I voted "Maybe", but unlikely is more accurate. My gear money is so limited, it take some time to have enough saved up. And because of that, it would have to be something I REALLY wanted before I'd shell out for it...I'm thinking the odds of that are somewhat slim.

I've seen Office Space...a co-worker kept referring to it, so I got it on Netflix a couple years ago. It was very funny!

G&L really needs to start offering these. Really hoping I don't need to refret the incoming ASAT after a few months as it just doesn't feel as good. I got about 6 dealers to bug em about this (when shopping for quotes) so hopefully I am inflating the apparent demand :happy0007:

Hey Chris, nice to have you back!

I would MAYBE be interested in a Special Edition, but only if it were based on the Legacy body; or perhaps somthing totally retro like an Interceptor, or the Comanche VI with the sickle headstock. The idea of a G-200 reissue is an interesting one, but I probably wouldn't buy one--I think they're fugly!

I kinda wish I'd had the money to get one of the "Phyllis" sigs when they rolled around, but couldn't swing it. No big deal, I love the guitars I have.

I have not seen "Office Space", though I've worked in enough offices over the years that I could probably write my own sitcom.

Good start!

Bill

Home made ham sammich on a French roll. Black Forest ham and lots of lettuce, mustard & mayo.

I think probably not. The BABP LE basses didn't fire me up enough to buy in for any of several reasons. I get more excited about a straight production bass that fits.

I can't find the survey, so I'll just give my answer & reason.

My answer is NO, I wouldn't want another G&L LE. Reason: It was OK, not awesome. I'd rather spend my bucks on something more special and toneful - like my Spalted Maple Legacy, my G-200, my Skyhawk Signature, my early Blues Boyh, or my '86 ASAT. Each of those cost less than my LE, and each suited me better soniclly & just plain ole playing enjoyment.

Never even heard of "Office Space". When I get around to seeing a movie, it's come & gone. Last movie I saw that I really liked a helluva lot was "Up In The Air" with George Clooney.

Good to see you. I think we deserve an updated pic of those kids. That last little feller was hatched whilst you were so active on this board. He must be ready to start swinging a bat or playing linebacker in Pee Wee League by now.

One day, we're gonna make that Mississippi Blues circuit. One day.

Jay

Put in my vote already, but like others said, another GLDP LE is not as interesting as visiting "retro" world in full force or even with minor enhancements. G-200, Intercepter or even introduce the Innovator that never made production. :o

Oh yes, very funny for all the right reasons. I still want to get the updated version. BTW Where is my red stapler?

Hope all is well Chris, great start to the week.

Yes, particularly, power engineers are and will be in demand...due mainly to baby boomers in the utility industry starting to retire. Definitely parts of the power grid are outdated, but many companies are putting lots of capital into infrastructure. Stay tuned this week for your thoughts on a big buzzword in the electric business.

To be honest, I had never heard of it until today. BUT, I took a look at their website, data sheet, and a few reports. It seems like it's a type of fuel cell technology. If folks like Google, Coca Cola, & Walmart are using it...then it must be somewhat viable. Will this technology spread like wildfire? Probably not...unless it's ridiculously cheap, convenient, and easy to repair.

Here's the trailer for Office Space. If you've ever worked at the cube farm...then this is just preaching to the choir. Like others have mentioned...not for kids. I believe this was Jennifer Anniston's 1st movie...and a big boost to Swingline stapler sales.

A limited edition guitar? I'm still saving up for my Bluesboy.

I liked Office Space but I'd love to see it again to confirm this opinion.

Here is a quiz for you Mr. Electrical Engineer. What dam is this. Hint: It is not in the US. It stradles two contries. The names of both countries and the name of the river it dams, start with the same letter.

Care to guess?

I'll take Geography Z for $1000 Alex.
What is the Kariba Dam?

I, too, would like to own a bluesboy as well.

If anyone cares to put a face to my name (or forum handle, anyway), I'm often told I look like Ron Livingston, the lead actor in Office Space.

Seeing the trailer again for the first time in a long while, I gotta say, it's not so far off.
