Burst vs. burst

Mon Sep 07, 2020 2:24 pm

Perhaps someone in here can explain to me something I don't understand. It's of no importance, I just wonder :-)

Why are finishes such as greenburst or blueburst premier/more expensive finishes than tobacco sunburst or cherryburst??

Is it just policy, or does it have to do with economy somehow?

I always assumed it's because they do those colors in smaller batches but this is just my wildly unscientific guess.

I never knew they had a difference in cost.
When I ordered my Blueburst ASAT Classic in 2011 I thought all premium finishes were the same cost. If they weren't, I was not aware of it.

Standard burst finishes are done on Alder bodies.
Premier burst finishes are done on Swamp Ash bodies, more body prep work.

Yes, there is an upcharge for Premier finishes, which includes a Swamp Ash body.
NOTE: Some model descriptions show “Standard and Premier finishes included.”
These models DO NOT require extra charge for Premier finishes.

What you are saying confirms what I thought I understood. Premium finishes do have an upcharge.

What the OP seems to be saying is that certain colors like BlueBurst and GreenBurst cost more than other color Bursts, which does not seem to be what you are saying.
If I understand, all Premium finishes on Ash bodies have the same upcharge regardless of color. Only exceptions are certain models that specify otherwise.

So a Blueburst does not cost more than a Cherryburst.

Blueburst is a Premier finish, Cherryburst is a Standard finish.

OK, I didn't realize that. I thought all bursts were equal.
