2011 G&L ASAT Special Deluxe questions

Sat May 09, 2020 3:00 pm

Gang,

I have a mint condition 2011 ASAT Special Deluxe that I'm told was a forum guitar. Evidently the gang here spec'd out a model and G&L built a special run, from what I understand.

It's a lefty - maybe the only one in this run. It's got a mahogany body with a flamed maple top, a hard-rock maple neck, Sperzel locking tuners, a Graph-Tech nut, G&L MFD jumbo single-coil pickups, a G&L wide-C neck with a 1-11/16" nut and stainless steel frets. Comes in a "Deluxe Black Tolex" case.

How many were made? I understand the cost was $1,700 back in 2011. What would it cost today?

What is it worth? I'm trying to sell it and as an acoustic guy I don't have a feel for the market for it.

Thanks for any comments or help in advance!

Gary

The ASAT Special Deluxe model was in production from 2001 - 2015.

There were only two guitarsbyleo.com factory built guitars and neither one was based upon the ASAT Special Deluxe.
The first was built in 1999 and was based upon the ASAT III with a mahogany Semi-Hollow body. It was a Limited Edition of 25.
Here's Brad Traweek's (created and maintain the http://www.guitarsbyleo.com website from mid-1997 til October 15, 2000):

The second one was built in 2014-15 and was based upon the Fallout body with MFD Jumbo Single Coil neck pickup and an MFD Humbucker in the bridge pickup.
It also was a Limited Edition of 25.
Here's mine:

Lefty models of the ASAT Special Deluxe were a no charge option. The pickups in an ASAT Deluxe would be two MFD Jumbo single coil pickups, not humbuckers.
The neck on yours is the #3 standard optional neck and the stainless steel frets are also a standard option.
The locking tuners were a standard option. The Graph-Tech nut was also a standard option. The Deluxe Black Tolex case was standard with this model.

For pricing see this post: Is there a good source for getting G&L instrument values?.

Please post some photos of your ASAT Special Deluxe and also add it to our G&L Registry.

Hope this helps.

Hey Gary,

A "forum guitar" with your description does not ring a bell. This site has a couple of links you can visit with a list of G&L instruments, either regular production ASAT-style guitars or Special Edition & non-production ASAT-style guitars. You will find the ASAT Special Deluxe in the former as a regular production model between 2001 and June 2015. The latter list has 2 entries, one for Midlothian School of Music's run of a number of ASAT S-3 models with ash body (no cap) and the run commissioned by the now defunct Pro Guitar Shop which has a mahogany body but no maple top. Both of these were built around 2011.

As Craig indicates, the 2 guitars spec'ed out by this forum are the GbL LE ASAT with semi-hollow maghogany body and 3 S-500 pickups from 1999 and the GbL LE-2 which has a Fallout body, not ASAT, and was commissioned in 2014.

Posting a picture will be very helpful.
