Beautiful guitar! Congrats!
And great video. A friend and I have recently been performing that entire album. Love it!

Elwood / Tom,
Thanks much. Funny thing you post that video, I was playing today with a Grateful Dead pick that has a picture from the Skull and Roses cover. Will spend some time with "It Must Have Been the Roses" tomorrow, and add pick pictures.

Ah, you scored one of the roses bluesboys! Nice aquisition, Sam. Congrats!
I've seen those on reverb. It really is a versatile guitar, and I agree, the duncan has a wide range of tones from very mellow to beefy and soulful, I like the way it mixes with the MFD bridge p'up.
I was just using my bluesboy with the same p'ups at rehearsal tonight and will gig with it this wkd, exciting!
Thx for the tunage, Elwood. The October '80 Radio City Music Hall concerts were special, and are widely available on Youtube. My room mate in college went up to those shows and came back bragging how great!

Cool guitar Sam. I assume there is a gloss clear coat finish over the artwork. Hard to tell from the pics. -- Darwin

Nice score Sam. I have seen those from time to time on Reverb too and have thought about pulling the trigger on one. maybe some day...
Those RCMH concerts were awesome. A friend dated the daughter of one of the local NYC news anchors and scored us killer tickets...
Bob Wier was a real dick and I always hated it when he played an Ovation Acoustic.

Beautiful guitar Sam! Congrats!!!
Does the etching bother you at all when you play it? Is it a smooth surface?
Does anyone here own the prototype version of this guitar? I really love that one, as it is red, which matches the rose theme really well.

Gorgeous BB Sam, a real work of art! I too have seen a few of these engraved ASATs on Reverb. I always kind of like the turquoise one with the SW engraving, but this one is even more sweet.
Congratulations! Cheers, Dan

Thanks again you guys.
John, I wasn't sure about Seth Lover but agree 100%, mixes well with the MFD. Have listened to the RCMH hall shows many times.
Darwin, the clear coat is over but the engraving is still very prominent, coat is very light. Hence the NENA description.
Tom, I had just seen this on Reverb too long and it called my name. Thanks for the pics.
cho, the etching is not noticeable at all when playing.
Dan, the SW engraving is WAY cool, thanks for the compliment.
Here is the pick I mentioned above. Seems to fit right in. (notice I have a box of em')

I've got one of these, too. I've seen 5 of these sold, brand new, in the past few months. I think this model didn't set the world on fire. Nice guitar. Mine is light and smells great. There is still on Reverb from a shop in North Carolina, if anyone wants one....

Jos - thanks and I understand yer "speaks to me" feeling about your Wrangler. Even more so after she arrived, and yep 8 hand claps for sure!
glowworm - glad to see another Roses owner out there. Not sure why this Johnny Garcia engraved series are not posted more often, maybe they were purchased as "guitar art" and not played much. Can see why because they are truly beautiful guitars, but if I own 'em I gotta play 'em.

Hey Sam,
Another one came to the market recently and it was "speaking to me" as much as 'The Wrangler". But when these 2 came together, I couldn't get a word in edgewise ...

Sam,
Webmaster Craig was kind enough to update the color of all registered
'The Roses', including yours, to Nearly Naked (NENA) Amber. This is more accurate than the Honey Ale previously used. Thanks again Craig!

Jos' Specifications sheet says his has a Amber with Satin "Frost" Topcoat fiinish.
So, I checked with Spencer at the factory and got these details:
Hi Craig,
Yes, these were limited to 20. They were a very similar finish to the NENA Honey Ale. I think the color was a little different though. Same idea though. Very thin satin urethane finish that let the grain come through.
Thanks,
Spencer

sam wrote:What lead me to buy this one? Granted, I am a little fanatical about ASAT's, but there is often a girl behind most stories. That is the case here. My youngest daughter's middle name is "Rose" and the build date here is a few days off her birthday. (not actual day of birth, but birthday) Only found out build day today actually, lucky draw.
There are more out there, if you can find one you will have a true piece of guitar art and a sweet sounding ASAT. Happy hunting!
I have a 1990 SC-3 that I acquired used around 10 years ago. The neck date is the same day of the year as my daughter's birth date. The SC-3 is a few years older than my daughter.

Kit,
That is a cool thing.
I am always on the lookout for ASAT's with stamp dates of family birthdays.
(that is another way to justify the GAS -
)

Thanks propjob,
Had it out last week and it still has “that sound” I remember.
I’m looking for Jos to tell us more about his take on his new one.
He resurrected this thread with his new “bouquet of roses”.

Great looking for sure. But although great sounding, not fundamentally different than other Bluesboys I have.
