Need help identifying finish and other details (1996 ASAT)

Post by effdub »

Just got this yesterday. I'm brand new to G&L ownership. I've done some reading and I have searched the Registry here to gather info.

This is an ASAT Classic. Serial number is G050000. Yes, it's exactly 50,000.

Based on what I've seen in the Registry, it seems that it was most likely made (assembled) some time between maybe May and August 1996. But feel free to set me straight if I'm off base. :)

What I'm not sure about is the finish color. And also is that pickguard stock?

I'm in no hurry to pop the neck off the check the neck/body date stamps, but I'll get around to it one of these days.

Thanks in advance for the help!

effdub,

yeah! ya got a three bolter.

I would say the color is honeyburst, or maybe honey. (one of my faves and I still don't have one that color) guard appears to be stock.

Cool serial number

Yeah that's definitely a honeyburst with a pearl white pickguard. Looks all stock to me. What a beauty!

Thanks guys!

Would you say my estimation of the manufacture date is reasonably accurate?

Loving this thing so far!

My only gripe is the low E upper saddle set screw is very high and is very uncomfortable on my hand when I'm doing lead work. Sucker sticks up very far. Might have to get a shorter screw or maybe file 'er down.
