Bluesboy Semi Hollow vs ASAT Deluxe Semi Hollow

About ready to put a new order in for something, but I'm on the fence between the two. I've got an ASAT Special, Epiphone Sheraton II, and a Heritage H-575. Trying to sell off the Heritage now, it's a little too dark for my tastes.

I'm foremost playing a lot of modern jazz right now (mostly free form and Wayne Shorter/late 60's Davis/Hancock), but I play you know... indie rock or however you'd describe it. The Sheraton II is pretty awesome for a lot of that, but looking for something just a tad bit modern sounding. I also play fingerstyle guitar as well.

Not super sure what direction I should go, any advice?

I've got an Epiphone Casino (Sheraton cousin), Peerless/Korean, from 1995. Aside from an annoying bridge rattle, I really like the guitar. It's very light, and has a cool vintage tone and Beatles vibe. However, soon after I snagged the Casino, an ASAT Classic SH w/F-hole came along at the right price. It fits the bill that my Casino did, and while not Casino-light, is quite comfortably weighted, just feels and sounds like a much more solid guitar. O.K., I know that technically it is a more solid guitar, but that's not what I mean. It just feels like a more serious instrument, and has a great sound to boot. However, if you're into jazz, the BB SH is probably a great one to consider, as is the Deluxe SH. Have you had a chance to play them both? Obviously the best route, although sometimes this is easier said than done. Good luck.

I play left handed, so it's going to be impossible for me to play these. But thanks for the info though.

I'm in the fortunate position of owning a 575, ASAT Deluxe semi hollow and a Bluesboy semi hollow. For jazzy tones the 575 is in a class of its' own, mine has SD59s fitted and I really like the warm fat tone. Maybe change the pickups to SD P-Rails with the triple shot switching ? That will give you plenty of tonal options. I have those fitted to a couple of guitars and they are excellent. I'm lefty also and I know how hard they are to come by, I'd hate to sell it and regret it later. Of the two ASATs I prefer the Bluesboy for jazz tones, the Seth Lover in the neck is great for that. Not sure how the bridge pickup would be for jazz though, I tend to stay on the neck pickup exclusively for those type of tones. The Deluxe semi has it's own thing going on, great tones in its' own right, definitely more modern. Mine has a maple fingerboard so it's a lot brighter than the 575.

Not sure if any of that helps your decision, just my own 2c etc.

The 575 is a great guitar, but not totally sure if it is for me. It's got a very specific sound, which is perfect for swing jazz, but for me is just a little too dark with anything else. Amazing guitar nonetheless.

Glad to see that you endorse the Bluesboy, though. Looks like I will be going in that direction. Had a talk with a couple of friends who sung the praises of the bluesboy. The Seth Lover pick-ups rule! I think I'm gonna go with a maple neck on the BB, though, I have an ASAT Special and just absolutely love how it plays. Might be a little brighter than the rosewood, but when it comes down to playability, the Maple wins for me. Plus, it just looks better with the gun oil against the butterscotch body I'm planning on!

I just upgraded about a month ago from my Tribute Bluesboy SH to the ASAT Deluxe SH, and I LOVE the Deluxe. The choices in sound are fantastic on the Deluxe. The only thing I miss with the Bluesboy is that the Deluxe even split with bridge PU selected still doesn't quite get that bridge SC twang of the 60's tele-sound that I love and the the Bluesboy nailed. As for your uses though, the jazzy sounds are cleaner and wider -ranged in the Deluxe. I always found the neck pickup by itself a bit too fat and the sound from both a bit too twangy for certain clean tones.
