Re: Whats my G&L worth
F-100's are great guitars. I have an '82 that was enjoying immensely over the weekend.
Without pictures or a decent condition report, it's very hard to say what it's worth. Now is an historically bad time to sell guitars, as tax time in the U.S. is here. After that, things generally pick up a bit.
There is a prevailing opinion that the the MFD humbuckers sound best in a mahogany body. For that reason the "hogs" may have a slightly higher resale value. However, my F-100 is a rather rare maple body, and it sounds pretty bad-ass. There are some colors that pull a premium, as does having the original hard-shell tolex case. Based on what you've provided, I'd say that your guitar is worth anywhere between $300-$800. If you give a more complete description, and/or pictures, that can be narrowed down quite a bit.

Re: Whats my G&L worth
Hi Brian,
I really don't know how many F-100's were made. They were George and Leo's first guitar design made and marketed by G&L. Having a maple fretboard on a mahogany body is a sweet looking setup, and as I said, supposed to have the best sound.
Since yours sounds like an earlier model, it should have the serial number stamped into the bridge. Yes?
It should also have pickup poles that have a slot (ala slotted screwdriver tip) rather than a hex key shape if it's one of the earliest. It may also have a nitrocellulose finish, which is desirable and I believe was only used for the first year or two at G&L. The Series II designation refers to the fretboard radius, which is 7 1/2" on the II and 12" on the Series I. If you have the original case, that's a big plus, as the G&L strat shapes are a bit longer than standard Stratocasters and will need a longer case. Check out the "Gallery" section for pictures of what should be the proper case. Bottom line: If the guitar is in very good, original shape, with original case, everything works, no big chips, gouges, stains, smells, etc., you may pull $650 or so. If it were mint, it would probably fetch $900 or so, I don't think much more. It sounds like you're more in that $600 range. $700+ is possible if it's got the earlier, slotted pole pieces.
Keep checking Ebay for comparables, as that is your best indication of present market value. Good luck.

With all respect to MR's massive mental database - one of the best ways to get an idea of real-world current value is to take a shot at eBay's search - log in and click the option that lets you view ended auctions as well.
Like any statistical pursuit, the sample size has a great effect on results. For something like a Mexi Strat or a Teisco ET-200, you can find dozens of finalized auction prices.
This at least is an idea of what North American (& to some extent global) buyers have actually paid for a given item. And with the market dropping off for old & vintage guitars of late (really a buyer's market out there from what I've seen, if you have the cash, get whatever you've been dreaming of!) it's probably at least a strong indicator of what a given instrument will fetch.
I sold a 1984 Strat - the "2 knob" style - and my estimate of final price was dead on to what it sold for, based on price & condition of similar auctions from the last few months.
For very unique guitars, you just won't have enough auctions to compare (IE, your sample will be too small).

Re: Whats my G&L worth
I JUST saw and played a F100 Series II in a store. It was all mahogany, with a maple neck. All original, neck in great shape, but the body's a mess. Lots of nicks, dents, scrapes and scratches. And it looks like someone at one time tried to put a Bigsby on it or something because it has like 4 drill holes where a Bigsby would be. The bridge on it was the original Saddle-lock.
It played great and sounded great. The guy said it's been there for several months. The tag said $425, but I bet I could get it for $350.
Is that a good deal for a butt ugly Leo-era G&L?.

I love my F-100, its mahogony. The maple ones are indeed rare, I wasn't sure they actually existed!. I have been trying to steal one on ebay this past year. I think MR's numbers are money. Only the nicest with original cases are edging over $800.

Hello, my name is Bob,
I have an red ASAT Special with swamp ash body and with the neckplate #G037177 and was wondering if it is an 83 or 84. It has a new maple neck which was installed several years ago by BBE. I would like to find out what the value is.

Re: Whats my G&L worth
Neither of the 2 years mentioned. Initially introduced as the Broadcaster in '85, the ASAT is younger than the years you quote. But '93 or '94 might be more reasonable. Only way to know for sure is to take off the neck and look for date stamps in the neck pocket and/or the neck heel. Leo was known for not enforcing S/Ns to be used in order.tele6string wrote:Hello, my name is Bob,

Hey tele6string,
1994 was a strange year. Since there was a baseball strike that year and the World Series was cancelled the value of EVERYTHING MADE is tremendously devalued. I would give ya $399.99 for that ASAT
There's a 1994 ASAT on fleabay now for $779 and $65 shipping. Give or take a couple hundred bucks for a '94 model depending on condition, three bolt or four bolt neck and other specifics can be taken into account. You will also see two others from 1994 on fleabay now from $1100 - $2100 based on special editions.($2100 is overpriced IMHO)
Hope this gives a little valuation help, just my .02 Keep that $399.99 number in mind......

Here's a source you might consider: Zachary Fjestads' Blue Book of Electric Guitars.tele6string wrote:Took of the neck and was stamped Feb. 25, 1994

From the source quoted by Craig above, a '94 ASAT special is somewhere between $550 - $850 depending on condition. Just a little more than sam wants to give youtele6string wrote:
