Grounding problem ASAT special Bigsby

Mon Jan 14, 2013 4:30 am

Hello,
I recently purchased an ASAT special hollow body with Bigsby.
Saying that this is a great guitar would be an underestimation, it is super.

However, when I put on the lights in the room, there's a hum that leaves when I touch the volume or tone control or the cable.
Not when I touch the strings.

To my opinion: bridge is not grounded.
I already found lots of information about grounding bridges in this forum.
But not exactly for the type of bridge installed on my guitar.

Before I start removing the screws:
Does anyone knows how the ground should be attached to this type of bridge?
Or is it attached to the Bigsby in stead of the bridge?

If someone can link me to pages with pictures, that would be fine.

Thanks in advance,
Jef

Can't see any pictures. ;)

Is the Bigsby factory installed? Which bridge do you have? How does it look like?

You're right for sure, the strings seems not to be on ground, so normally the bridge get's connected, so you may look, if there's any cable running to it and maybe where it lacks contact.

Just checked the hardware and cavity and the is no ground wire attached which should go to the bridge.
First glance : no hole to the bridge too.... So this will be hard to ground the bridge without causing any damage.

Anyone got an idea why? Is this the normal setup whit a Bigsby installed? Did I overlook something?

Thanks in advance!

Hello, problem solved. Checked the depth of the cavity. Removed the Bigsby, drilled a hole, wired the bigsby and soldered it to the tone pot next ... All mods are under the Bigsby.
Shielding is for the next time.
Anyway, thanks to all for your support (Or am I going cynical.... :-( )
Great guitar, I only doubt if the Quality inspection is that great at G&L USA....

Kind regards,
