L2500 neck pickup problem

Hi there I have a American L2500. I have a problem with my neck pickup. If I switch my toggle to my neck pick up. To use just my neck pickup in Series. It sounds super thin. It used to sound fat like a P bass on Steroids. It almost sounds like it’s always in single coil. I also noticed the Bass control doesn’t seem to add much Bass to just my neck pickup. If I tap my pulls on my neck pick up with the tip on my screw drive it also sounds different from the bridge pickup. Any ideas on what’s wrong and how to fix it? Also switching from active to passive doesn’t fix the problem.
