s500 tremolo arm

How mr fender thought thus design was better than the fenders Il never know! If I tighten the allen key the arm is in the way of all the controls.if I leave it loose it drops out.
Has anyone found any work arounds to this next to useless tremolo arm please

Here's a photo from the G&L main website:

Notice the height of the trem arm in the arm socket. You must have pushed your bar all the way down. Just loosen the set screw and raise the bar so that it clears the control knobs.
Then tighten the set screw, but not too tight. That way you can remove and reinsert the bar into the socket without the need to loosen/tighten the set screw again.

I also agree with Tim, that it is a better system then the original Leo Fender design.
