G&L Legacy - Truss Rod Adjustment Issue

Thu Dec 04, 2014 12:00 am

Today, I received a 2013 USA G&L Legacy, which I purchased on eBay in "like new" condition from an individual seller (who purchased it from a G&L dealer).

The neck was slightly bowed, so I tried using the included (original) 4mm wrench to adjust the truss rod. However, I wasn't able to insert the allen wrench into the truss rod nut, as the truss rod nut isn't aligned perfectly with the access hole in the headstock. To adjust the truss rod, I have to insert the allen wrench at an angle; I'm able to add/remove relief to a limited extent, but don't feel comfortable doing this, as I do not want to risk stripping the nut.

This is as far as the allen wrench can go.

I wasn't sure if this was an anomaly on my particular guitar, or if it was common to all recent Legacy guitars. This is an example of one (of many) brand new G&Ls sold on eBay:

The truss rod nut on my Legacy, which seems similar in comparison:

Is the truss rod nut position similar on other recent G&Ls, or should I look into sending this back? If there is nothing wrong with the truss rod/nut, any suggestions on how the truss rod should be adjusted? Thank you.

Ball-head Allen wrench and you're done ;-)
I bought a set of these which was one of the best investments in my toolbox. Should be readily available in any hardware store, Home Depot etc.

Here is my solution to this issue that I posted some time back. -- Darwin
