I really like this head stock but didn't realize Skyhawks got them too , that is if this is correct ... whats the story behind it ??

The Skyhawk was in production from 1984-1991. See

That Skyhawk is from late production. They swapped over to the traditional one-piece pickguard and sickle headstock at some point in the late '80s. In his book, George Fullerton said the pickguard change was done to make the body look more like a Strat, and the headstock change was intended to make it look more modern.
