You didn't mention it was one of the rarer Lemon Drop F-100's.
It looks like someone took the stock (first version) headtstock to town with a jigsaw.
Not the thing to do, but it is what it is.
You mentioned you have a new(or at least unmolestered) neck for it . That would make the guitar look like it should.
The interceptor headstocks are way cool, but it seems someone didn't quite grasp the vision,
or the sacred vibe of the early G&Ls for that matter.
Yours has a very low serial number IIRC , I'd love to see the neck pocket dates when you have the neck off .
and maybe some close ups of the bridge etc. just for porn's sake.
Is the newer neck 3-bolt? I forget if you mentioned that in your other thread.

Here's an unmodified headstock from 1980:
Do both of your necks have skunk stripes?

Elwood,
I think you mean the rarer Candy Lemon finish, like this one in our Gallery:
Brad W. Traweek's 1980 F-100 (Candy Lemon) or maybe it has this finish:
1980 F-100 (Metallic Gold). Lemon Drop is a fairly recent finish. IIRC, it's a 2010 finish.
Too bad about the hacked up headstock on the neck.

D'oh,
Thanks Craig,
I was just looking at a newer G&L with the Lemon Drop finish.
The OP's F-100 looks like Candy Lemon to me ( I've yet to see another metallic gold from the early years)

Well if its a jigsaw puzzle head. Then it doesn't matter if I take the neck off. It to be taken off when it was disfigured. I'm Bummed !!!!
The Color issue has me confused. I didn't know there was a Lemon Drop Color so, I registered it as Metallic Gold, I feel like this needs to be clarified for accuracy sake.
Ok. So here are the issues for me. 1. Keep the Guitar as is. 2. Replace the neck with the 1982 neck that is unblemished until I find a 1980's neck. 3. Figure out what color it is. What is best for the Mistreated G&L?
I will post a picture of the Bridge. Thank You for the Help. I also have a 1983 Nighthawk and matching Skyhawk ( prob rebadged ),
ASAT Classic and a Legacy. I had a 1980's F100 in the early 80's, got stolen ( in Phoenix AZ. 1984 ), I put a Graphite Nut on it way back then, Tobacco Sunburst. Lets see if anyone has seen that Axe!!!!!

Forgot. 1982 neck 3 bolt

The color would be as Craig mentioned ,Metallic Gold or Candy Lemon (that's what gets my vote).
Wow, you've got some cool early birds .Maybe some pics for us when you can?
I'd put the '82 neck on it and it'll be real close to how it would have left the factory in '80.
Then it won't be a mistreated G&L anymore. I bet the newer neck will be a nice tight fit .

Just looked at the F100 Candy Lemon Drop photos is the Guitar Porn thread. Looks like that color. I'm going to switch necks and then I will post what the date stamp says on the hacked neck and body.

Cool! ...just to keep things straight...the official title for the color is "
Candy Lemon" .

A lot of fret buzz

Looks like candy lemon to me, you can tell if it changes color in different light here's two examples where it looks gold and then the more lemon color.
I wouldn't change the neck, unless you're going to sell it, if it plays nice leave it, it doesn't look that bad and you may cause yourself some setup problems.

take it to a good tech , that could be a simple problem , I have all my used guitars check over by my G & L dealer before I own them a week , some just needed adjusted , some needed the frets filed down a touch but its standard procedure for me to send them out first weekend I get them .... its still looks like a sweet guitar even with the mods

What has me baffled, if you look at the way the head was cut. The lines are calculated and the finish is original. No added finish.

show some side picts if you can .... heck , post a bunch of picts

It looks like a nice neck . What is the date stamp on it ?
Can you take a close up of some of those chipped finish areas showing both the edge and the face ?
It's possible an employee was blessed with a perk and got 'creative'.
This is the place to build a consensus , the more pics the better.

More pictures will be taken and posted. Better focus also. No matter what I'm not going to separate the Neck and the Body. People change but they have the Soul they were born with, no matter how it changes. Dates will be posted also. Later on in the day after work.
Great Advise, I Appreciate the Genuine Concern.

neat point of view, I hope you enjoy many years with your guitar.
And even with the headstock like that it just adds to the lore of the guitar and makes it a little more unique
