SC-3 Series II

Hi,

There is the model name SC-3 Series II in the Registry. What are the properties of such a guitar? I couldn't find any info on this either here or elsewhere. There are only a few guitars registered with this model name and they are from 1980(!?) to 1991.

Thanks,
HunGLish

I'm not an expert, but I think there were two body styles. One had a longer top horn, the other was more rounded. Not sure which is which...

There were 3 body styles for the SC-3:

SC-3 (Mustang-style body) 1982 - 1983 Approx. 350
SC-3 (Strat-style body) 1984 - 1987
SC-3 (with pickguard and body contours) 1988 - 1991

Reference post in the G&L Knowledgebase Forum: Production List of G&L Instruments (USA).

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys! I knew that there are 3 body types, actually 4, as there are some 1991-1992 SC-3s with S-500 like bodies (as I read at GGJaguar's site).
So we don't know what this is. I tought this is something like as with the F-100 Series I and II (different radius). I'm investigating a weird SC-3 that's why I asked.

I, too, was thinking that Brad Traweek (the original creator of this website and the G&L Registry) was referring to SC-3 with 12" radius fretboard.
But it never was clarified as to what it refers to. All G&L Price Lists (1980-1991) which have the SC-3 listed only listed the neck as having a 7.5"
radius fretboard. The 1990-91 Price Lists list two entries for the SC-3:

The second entry says "Deluxe single coil pickups" and I think that those pickups are the S-500 MFD pickups instead of the Skyhawk MFD
pickups. Also Sunburst finish and either Rosewood or Maple fretboard were available. But both SC-3 entries list only a #2 Neck (7.5" radius).

Do you have photos of the weird SC-3 you are investigating? What about it is weird and do you have the Serial Number?

I found a post I replied to in 2013 which will explain SC-3 Series II model used in the G&L Registry:

Use the SC-3 model name in the Registry. That covers the 1982-1987 built models (Mustang-style and Strat-style bodies without pickguard).
The SC-3 Series II is for the 1988-1991 built model (Strat-style with pickguard).

Here is the Reference post: 82 SC-3 Value.

So, the SC-3 Series II model name in the G&L Registry is for the SC-3 guitars which are 1988-1991 built model (Strat-style with pickguard and body contours).
I have changed the model name for some of those which were listed as SC-3 Series II but are listed with 1980-1987 build dates to SC-3 model. I also changed
the SC-3 model name to SC-3 Series II for those which match the build years 1988-1991 and/or listed as 3rd body style and/or listed as having a pickguard, body
contours.

Hope this helps.
