1982 SC-2 Vibrato Arm Tightening Question

Thu Aug 08, 2019 12:28 pm

Hey all -

I've searched high and low for an answer to this, but I've come up empty. I have an '82 SC-2 with the Pat Pending DFV and I can't figure out how to tighten the vibrato arm socket. It's the version without a set screw like this: http://yowhatsshakin.com/yowhatsshakin/G%26L_SC-1_DFV.html

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Can't wait to have this vibrato arm stay in the socket!

Make sure the arm is threaded. Insert the threaded end into the socket and then screw it into the bottom of the socket.
Also, make sure that there are no obstructions inside the socket.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply! This guitar came with an arm that is not threaded but has the split in it like the ESI ones here https://electricstringedinstrument.com/esi/products/vibrato_arms.html

Are you saying it should resemble this arm? (from another post on the forum -> thanks!)

I'm pretty sure my 1982 S-500 doesn't have the set screw in the socket and doesn't thread in either. I believe it just has the slot for a compression fit.

I had forgotten about the split end arms. You can use a blade screwdriver to increase the spread of the split.
