MFD Special pickups

1991, lefty ASAT body on the way. Swamp ash routed for Special pickups and the DF trem. Never assembled as there are no screw holes except for the 3-bolt neck. I can order PUs from G and L but are there tonal differences between the pre and post BBE pickups? Hand wound vs. machine?

Changes in the method of winding and the number of turns have occur over the years. See this post in our Knowledgebase: List of pickups used in G&L guitars.

The current pickups are machine wound and have more windings than the earlier MFD Jumbo pickups.
