1981 F-100

Wed Aug 17, 2016 8:28 pm

Greetings all! First post, but hopefully not the last.

I have an opportunity to purchase a 1981 G&L F-100 Series I tomorrow. I have not seen the guitar personally, but as far as I can tell the guitar is all original. It does not have the OHSC. Money is a bit tight, but I feel this is a good purchase. What say you? :)

Greetings Thomas,

I say that's a sweet deal on a sweet guitar! - Congrats!
Can't beat early Leo-erarG&L's IMO…

Cheers,
KF

Looks like a great condition example of a great guitar. Anytime you can pick up a Leo era G&L in that kind of condition for under $1K you should.

I say go for it and enjoy, it's really a very versatile and fun guitar to play. My first G&L was an F-100 and I love it.

Congrats!
It looks good, and the slotted polepieces and active electronics adds value(sonic and monetary).

Here some text and an image from the patent :
"An electromagnetic pickup for an electric guitar or similar stringed instrument incorporates a magnetic pickup assembly
having pole pieces whose heads are slotted. The heads are positioned directly below the strings of the guitar.
By orienting the slots so that they are perpendicular to the strings a percussive sound characteristic is obtained.
By rotating the heads so that the slots are parallel to the strings, a sound characteristic typical of dual pole pickups is achieved.

Looks like that F-100 is in very good shape. Appears to be all original except for the tremelo arm.

Again, you got a great guitar in great shape for a great price. Enjoy it and welcome to the addiction.

I have never been a fan of bare naked wood on a guitar but when it's in that shape I might change my mind. To me it's like a car with just primer on it. It should be nice and shiny and pretty.
Here's my Candy Apple Red F-100. It's just about my favorite guitar right now.

Wishing you many more great G&L's,

Thanks all,

I finally got time to start setting the guitar up. Took off the neck and it's dated june of 1981 I think. The neck pocket did not have a date stamped in it. It had a "1" stamped in Red with a circle around it. I'll take some pics tomorrow.

The Micro-tilt screw was stripped out, so I have a set ordered. The frets need a minor leveling and cleaning, but so far all looks good. I have not looked at the electronics yet. I'll post pics of the journey :)

Thanks again!

Thomas
