1981 G-200

Fri Sep 19, 2014 2:43 pm

I had promised to post some better photos of my G-200 in the NGD thread. That was almost two weeks ago. It's never taken me this long to post my own photos of a new-to-me G&L, but as corny as it may sound I haven't wanted to put the guitar down to do that. I mentioned in the NGD thread that the G-200 wasn't quite what I was expecting. It's different from every other G&L I've played, and I can honestly say that I've played almost every Leo-era model and quite a few of the BBE-era ones.

Anyway, here's some porn:

That last photo is something I'm starting to do when I change strings, i.e., document what I've put on that guitar and when I did it. I've already given up on keeping the empty string package in the case (since some of them stay out of the cases) and writing the instrument and date on the package insert (since my wife has thrown a couple away). I included the photo in this thread just to point out that those LaBella HRS strings have been working very nicely on the G-200 so far.

It's time to get back to other things, including some more G-200 time!

Thanks Sam! I'm trying to bring a months-long music room project to a close by next weekend. Once I have the place set up it will be easier for me to record some clips. I plan to make a few comparing/contrasting Leo-era models.

Thanks! I haven't popped the cloud cover off yet, but when I do I will take some pics.

I'm liking the LaBella HRS strings so far. They sound better than whatever came on the guitar at least. As OCD as I am over bass strings, somehow I've always just thrown whatever was cheapest on my guitars. This set was my first foray into checking out guitar string sets.

a hell of a nice looking guitar Ken. I thought I read some where that you had just picked up a g-200 but maybe the date was earlier...........I noticed this post is dated quite awhile ago.

Yeah, I can't believe it's been so long. It's been a hectic fall. I hoped to get some playing time this weekend to pull together some fresh opinions on the G-200, but that just wasn't in the cards.

Hopefully I will be able to get some G-200 time in one night this week.

I second Sam's request for some sound clips. Your G-200 looks great and you took some nice photos of it. Its a good feeling to be able to attain something you have been after for a long time. I know next to nothing about G-200's , are the pick ups the same as F-100's ? Or are they wound to different specs ? Good idea about the string packaging pics.

Ya, its an early one because of the cloud plate. I really like everything about that guitar.

That's a sweet piece of Leo lumber right there.
