Rampage Red '86 Asat

Thu Mar 20, 2014 4:11 pm

I've been chasing this Asat for several years. I finally was able to make it mine today! It's an '86 in Rampage Red. I don't believe Rampage Red was ever an option for the Asat, so it must have been special ordered. It's extremely clean and still has all of the original paperwork.

Very intense, I think I like it more than Fullerton Red.

Were you chasing this actual guitar or one of this model/style?

Would you mind describing more of the history of your pursuit?

How did you learn of the guitar? What do you know about the guitar?

Where had you spotted it and lost the chance to acquire it over the years?

How did you finally do it this time?

A friend of mine in Topeka, KS had it. He made the mistake of showing it to me, and I've wanted it ever since that day. He found the guitar right here on the GbL Marketplace. I guess all of us must have missed that listing! I traded a '93 Legacy and an '01 PRS, McCarty for it plus I got some cash back. The red Asat wasn't cheap, but it's an odd one and it's very clean and has all of the original paperwork. The guitar came with a Broadcaster case. The Broadcaster cases have gold piping instead of the usual white.

I just checked the dates on the guitar and it's an '87 not an '86. The body has a Jan. '87 date on it. The neck is Dec. '86.

Very interesting information, especially the dealer was Rhythm City. If it was Rhythm City in Atlanta, I got my first ASAT sig there in 92. They got bought out by Guitar Center.

Steve
Turns out your Asat was ordered by and built for Dale Hyatt for display at the NAMM show before it was sold to the dealer. Very cool!

Thank you, for the info Larry! The name "Dale" is on the hang tag and I wondered if it was referring to Dale Hyatt.

Thats amazing Sprinter! Could Richard be "Ricky"?
Could it be the companion to this guitar?

I was told this guitar and a few other similar unique instruments were tested by "Nashville Cats" at NAMM or given to valued dealers.

Steve, I was out of town when this was posted and somehow missed it. What a great ending to the chase. That is like finding a museum piece! -- Darwin
