Here is my ASAT neck pocket dates that are 2 years apart. Still a 3 bolt at the end of 1998. Any insight???? Left over high Birdseye maple neck??? Then they add the bright green swirl to show it off???? I have no clue...do you. Pics to come when I get it back from setup.

I can think of a couple of scenarios:

1. Necks and bodies were built in batches and stored. As an order came in, the factory would build a guitar from these
pre-built parts. And yes, necks and bodies could be stored and unused for a year or two.

2. The date stamp used for either body or neck had the wrong year set.

This has been seen before but it's really anyone's guess as to how yours came about.

Craig: I think you may be right. The last # of the date stamp rolled to an 8 instead of a 6. Hence the 1996 vs 1998 on the same guitar. Both 'are' from the same month and are 3 bolt configuration. The worker probably never caught it until the next day when he reset the stamp. An easy mistake really. That would make the guitar a 1996 3 bolt which is easy to understand. The timeline for a late November 1998 3 bolt just does not fit. Cool...thanks a lot for the great observation.
