I tried to post this yesterday, but it seems to have disappeared...
I recently got a G&L guitar, and the headstock has been sanded. Looks like a previous owner tried to draw on their own logo, then sanded it off again.
It's basically a Strat type, SSS, cherry burst, pearloid pickguard, 5 way switch, mini toggle, and it has a number on the back of the headstock.
Any help?
Thanks.

Give us a pic of the headstock #'s.
Or just the #'s for starters.

Sounds like an S-500. Post a picture of the back of the headstock and we can tell you if it is a Tribute or American.-- Darwin

I'm at work right now, but I THINK it's:
04046123
I believe that's correct.
Thanks for the replies.

My guess it is a MIK (Made In Korea) 2004 S-500 which would be a Tribute. The only question is was the S-500 being made as a Tribute in 2004. Craig would know.-- Darwin

I had an indonesian S-500, I'm pretty sure it was a 2003-4

Based upon your description and the serial number, you have a 2004 Tribute S-500 made in Korea.
Hope this helps.

Awesome, thanks so much for the help.
I love this guitar. Feels great, sounds great...very heavy, solid guitar. It's very "Stratty"...
I picked it up for $300 with a hard shell case. Pretty good deal I think.

Yes, I agree you got a good deal. Here's a copy of the 2003-2004 G&L Tribute Catalog page
for the S-500 and Legacy models:
Please do post a photo or two. I'd be interested in seeing what the previous owner did to the
headstock. Allso, please add it to our
G&L Registry.
