Keep new tribute 2008 comanche or get a 2011?

Post by digitalox »

Howdy all,

I'm new to the board and have a quick question. I just got a new tribute comanche but to my surprise it is really a NOS 2008. Should I keep it or get a 2011?
I'm having trouble finding info on these and can't tell if there are there any differences, other than the switch vs. pull pot. Fretboard radius perhaps?

Thanks,
Scott

I would keep it. You get the full warranty regardless when it was built. The 2008 and current builds continue to
be built in the same factory in Indonesia. Also, Dave McLaren posted this about the Tribute Comanches on the G&L Facebook page:
G&L Musical Instruments Gary, we stopped the version with the flame top for a more trad ash body.
Might be some time before these start finding their way into dealers. - Dave

G&L has a bunch of updates they will be making to the main G&L website, so the current
Tribute Comanche page has not been updated yet. I believe the only difference is that they
will not have the Flame top.

Hope this helps.

Interestingly it looks like there are a couple of different 2011s out there, this looks like mine

and then there is this guy, swamp ash, also doesn't appear to have vintage gloss, maybe the new one that you're referring to

Yes, the bottom one is the new one that Dave mentioned. The other one was probably built this year prior to the change.
Not really that unusual, given that the change was made mid-year. Also, look's like they changed to the 3-tone sunburst finish.
They both look great.

Cool I was wondering if it was fake or what was going on - I have done a lot of googling in the last few days and its the only tribute I'd seen like it. Looks good but I think I like the originals better.
If that auction is indicative of the new pricing the new model will be $200 less though!
