G&L Identification

Hi,

I own a G&L ASAT that was previously owned by Rick Parfitt of Status Quo (UK Rock Band). I know very little about the guitar itself and was wondering if anybody could give me some info (year, model, rarity etc.)?

Thanks

To start off: nice score!! The guitar looks great. Now some info on it. Nowadays the is is called The best I can date it is that it the guitar was built between 1988 and mid 1990. Why? Somewhere in 1988 the string tree on the headstock was between the posts for the D and G string (compare this guitar vs. this one) and in mid 1990, G&L transitioned to a countersunk truss rod, i.e. it would not stick out beyond the nut (compare this guitar vs. this one). In those days this model was called ASAT, your plain vanilla name. It looks like it has the anodized aluminum pickguard which is what it should be for that era. All links are from Greg Gagliano's website where you can find many examples of Leo era ASAT's.

Please add this instrument to the Registry if not already done so. Thanks!

Hope this helps,

- Jos
