Legacy Tribute vs. S500 Tribute

Sat Feb 27, 2010 11:44 am

Hello...After playing every Fender Standard MIM I could find, I finally came upon a dealer who said, "we dont sell Fender...we sell something better!). He recommended a Legacy Tribute and I was very impressed.
The G&L website is sketchy on specs, and the Legacy Tribute and the S500 seem identical. Could someone explain the differences, advantages etc? Price difference locally is about $200, which I'm not inclined to splurge on

Thanks,
Jay

There are two differences between the Tribute Legacy and the Tribute S-500: the pickups and the pickup switching.

The Legacy has G&L Alnico single coil pickups.
The S-500 has G&L Magnetic Field Design (MFD) pickups.

The Legacy has the PTB (Passive Tone and Bass) system.
The S-500 has the PTB system and an expander switch.

For more info on the G&L guitar pickups, click here.
For more info on the Expander switch, click here.

Hope this helps.

Addendum:

I just added this post: S-500 or Legacy?,
which contains a video demo of both models.
