Are all G&L USA built instruments still Plek'd?

Fri Mar 22, 2019 8:27 am

Yes, all G&L USA built instruments are PLEK'd as part of the build process at the G&L factory in Fullerton, California.

In the COMMON SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES section of the U.S. Dealer Price List and our
G&L U.S. Specifications & Options posts in the G&L Specifications and Options sub-forum of the G&L Knowledgebase forum,
you will find this statement:
World-class fretwork finishing including Plek process ensuring the ultimate in player comfort and feel.

In February 2017, G&L changed the "CUSTOM BUILD SPECIFICATIONS" sheet and renamed it the "SPECIFICATIONS" sheet.
They removed the specific PLEK information for each instrument from this updated sheet. This caused some to assume that the
PLEK process was dropped. In addition, on some of the new CLF Research instruments, they mention that the frets were PLEK dressed on
those specification web pages on the main G&L website. So, others assumed that those which specifically mention Plek dressed were the
only ones which are run through the PLEK process.

So, again, yes, all G&L USA built instruments are Plek'd as part of the build process at the G&L factory in Fullerton, California.

I found out recently, that the Fullerton Deluxe models are not Plek dressed.

As of the G&L Custom Shop U.S. Dealer Price List dated June 1, 2022, there is no reference to the Custom Shop using the PLEK machine for building the CS instruments,
therefore, G&L no longer uses the PLEK machine as part of the build process at the G&L factory in Fullerton, California.
